Rickey McKown

A Study of the Bab's Sahifa Bayn al-Haramayn and Stephen Lambden's Translation of the Tablet

Rick McKown of Spruce Grove, Alberta, decide to do an in-depth study of a tablet of the Bab for the course The Writings of the Bab. He chose a tablet the Bab wrote "between the two shrines" (Mecca and Medina) and the results were so impressive that the faculty member for the course, Moojan Momen, recommended that the Wilmette Institute publish it.

Three Students Invite Local Faith Communities to Climate Change Program

Dan Cooper, Michael Moum, and Jackie Downey took the course Climate Change and invited faith communities in Casper, Wyoming, to explore paths of action together. Eleven people from four faith communities met and decided to form an Interfaith Power and Light chapter to combat Climate Change, the first one in the state.

Understanding, Insights, and Gratitude Gained from Baha'i Faith and the Arts Course

Victor Kulkosky of Fort Valley, Georgia, was surprised by inspiration to write "creative nonfiction" and plans to contribute to #OurStoryIsOne. He is grateful to meet so many creative people, interact with so much inspiring writing, and awaits the inspiration to write poetry and novels.

Justin Deverse

How can we incorporate the topics of human relationship with the Earth and climate change in our community activities?

The course Climate Change brought great insights to Justin Deverse of Pahrump, Nevada. While the forces that aim to send humanity over the cliff are strong, the Word of God is singularly capable of installing new life. Spiritual education can elevate the human condition and create the capacity for service. Building a resilient community is a priceless commodity of the future and the core activities are the tools that are ideally suited to realize it.

Sandy Hoover

Student Learns How Spiritual Concepts Influence Societal Happiness and Prosperity

The course Economics of Community Building gave Sandy Hoover confidence in being able to talk about spiritual concepts and how they truly do influence societal happiness and prosperity. She has acquired a better sense of the “mechanics” of how spirituality and material prosperity fit together, and feels that she can explain it to someone who doesn’t believe in “such things.” Ḥuqúqu’lláh and the storehouse model are great talking points in conversations to share how these simple but powerful mechanisms can rebalance wealth and build resilience.

August and September Courses

Orientation Course Still Available

The Wilmette Institute's "extension" (non-credit) courses have recently introduced an engaging one-week orientation course called "First Look - A Course on the Wilmette Institute’s Approach to Learning." This orientation aims to familiarize students with Moodle, the Baha'i conceptual framework for action, and the significance of public discourse. By focusing on these vital elements, the orientation course ensures that both the extension courses and students are aligned to apply the course material in support of the Nine Year Plan. We are excited to offer this course to everyone, and it's completely free. The course is designed to be self-guided, allowing participants to proceed at their own pace. To enroll, simply enter the enrollment key: 2023.
