SIGN UP NOW TO BRING 2022 GOLFATHON FOR ALS TO YOUR FACILITY
The Golfathon for ALS presented by Pacific Blue Cross will return in 2022 for a 17th consecutive year, and PGA of BC Professionals and facilities are encouraged to sign up now to participate.

Throughout the month of June, PGA of BC members and friends participating in the Golfathon for ALS strive to play as many holes as possible in a single day to support the ALS Society of British Columbia, lending their muscles in honour of those who have lost the use of their own due to the effects of the neurodegenerative neuromuscular disease.

Despite another busy year for facilities, the programs made huge strides once again in 2021 with yearly donations exceeding $200,000 for the second year in a row. That brought the cumulative total of funds raised by PGA of BC members to support ALS patients and their families to over $2.4 million since the program's inception.

Those interested in participating need only to select a day in June when they can conduct a Golfathon at their facility, while the ALS Society of BC looks after the major remaining details. Participants will receive a promotional kit in advance, while donations are accepted via the Golfathon website and the ALS Society provides media outreach on behalf of all participating facilities.

Those considering supporting this worthy cause in 2022 may contact ALS Society of BC Executive Director Wendy Toyer at [email protected] to declare their interest or to learn more.

PGA of BC PROFESSIONAL SPOTLIGHT -- BRUCE VERMEE
Head Professional, The Harvest Golf Club

PGA of Canada member since: 1990

What is the most rewarding part about being a member of the PGA of BC?
Working and learning with the Professionals I work with on a daily basis and in the Association to provide a great experience to the golfers I am in touch with every day, whether through teaching, or through any of the many hats golf Professionals wear.

Which significant accomplishments are you most proud of?
Being twice voted by my peers as the Interior Region's Golf Professional of the year and twice being voted onto the Board of Directors by my peers. Also being a stepfather and grandfather - which 15 years ago would have seemed to be something that would have never happened!

If you had to share one piece of advice with a new member of our Association, what would it be?
Though sometimes it is challenging, always remember how lucky we are to deal with people. Be it members, public, or students who choose to be at a golf course because they love it - not because they have to be there. We should have the same attitude.

What is your favourite golf course in British Columbia, and why?
Kokanee Springs Golf Course. So many great memories as a junior traveling there with a friend's family. Just a great spot to get away and play a great golf course in a beautiful area.
