OLSON, MORGAN CROWNED 2022 ASSISTANTS' & SENIORS' CHAMPIONS AT SANDPIPER GOLF COURSE
In championships that saw a wide-range of weather conditions, Zach Olson of Chilliwack Golf Club (picture right) and Doug Morgan (Richmond Country Club) battled the elements to win the 2022 PGA of BC Assistants' & Seniors' Championships presented by Arbor Memorial at Sandpiper Golf Course in Harrison Mills, BC.

Monday’s first round saw a rain delay for players in the afternoon draw, which halted play for approximately 45-miuntes while crews cleared greens of standing water and debris. Tuesday’s final round featured less than desirable temperatures, but soft conditions that yielded lower scores for the full field of 72 Assistants and 36 Seniors.

Olson captured the Assistants' Championship over Cory Renfew (Modern Golf Vancouver) after the duo were tied at 8-under par. Olson made birdie on the first playoff hole to capture his first PGA of BC tournament title.

Meanwhile, Doug Morgan etched his name on the Ben Colk trophy for the second time after posting one-under par, narrowly edging four players. Daryl Stubbs (Pacific Golf Academy), Brett Burgeson (Breaking Par Golf Academy), Keith Vandenbrink (Vernon Golf & Country Club) and round 1 leader Eddward Boudreau (Gorge Vale Golf Club) all finished just one shot back at even par.

The PGA of BC thanks host Professional Trevor West and the entire team of staff and volunteers at Sandpiper Golf Course for their outstanding hospitality. Further thanks go to presenting sponsors Arbor Memorial for its continued support of these championships and their on-site presence and a prize draw for competitors on Monday, won by Olympic View Golf Club's Randy Frank.

PGA of BC PROFESSIONAL SPOTLIGHT -- Helene Delisle
Class "A" Professional, Fairwinds Golf Club

Why did you become a PGA of Canada Professional?
I became a PGA of Canada Professional because I love the game and wanted to help golfers with their game.

What career path led you to where you are today?
Teaching and coaching were always what I was the most passionate and was lucky to start teaching at the age of 21 years old. Once I found my passion, I made decisions that would help me become a better teaching professional. In 2005, I decided to move to Victoria to improve my English, so that I can teach in both French and English and was planning on moving to Montreal and work for Debbie Savoy-Morel at Le Mirage Golf Club, but ended up falling in love with the island.

At which golf facility did you first begin working within the industry, and who was the PGA Professional?
The golf club where I started working was Le Grand Portneuf Golf Club in Pont-Rouge, Québec and the Head Professional was Mario Bouchard.

Which significant accomplishments are you most proud of?
When I started working at Fairwinds there wasn’t any juniors and now, 9 years later, we have over 100 juniors participating in our junior programs.
