Religious School News & Updates
June 2022
We hope everyone's summer is off to a great start ... we loved kicking off our own summer with a week of Camp MJ! Campers enjoyed boat building, indoor and outdoor sports, an egg toss from the roof of the building, a great field trip to LegoLand and SeaLife Aquarium, work in the Mitzvah Garden, challah baking, Tefillah with Michelle Cox and Rabbi Smiley, and so much more!
K.I.T. (Keep in Touch!)

Is your child attending overnight camp this summer? We would love to send them a note (or maybe even another fun surprise)! Please send the camp name/address and dates they are attending to [email protected] so we can keep in touch!
Enroll in Yalla! 2022-23
Our Sunday morning program, Yalla! continues to thrive and grow! Last year, we introduced immersive learning spaces, and the first installment of our new curriculum, which focuses on Jewish holidays. This year, based on Youth Committee survey feedback provided by Yalla parents, we have additional exciting changes to announce for the 2022-23 school year:

  • New Yalla! schedule: Yalla! hours will change to 9:00 am - noon, with exciting changes to the morning schedule! See below for more information
  • Phase 2 of the Yalla! Curriculum: Whole School Holidays Curriculum and Chai Curriculum in the classrooms and immersive spaces.
  • After Yalla! Programs: Each grade can look forward to more social programming on Sunday afternoons.
New Schedules for Yalla! 2022-23 - Hebrew now included!
A typical Pre-K – 3rd Grade day

  • Begin the morning in the chapel for a musical tefillah with our rabbis, Michelle Cox & Laura Payne
  • More music with Laura Payne
  • Continue to build upon their exploration and learning in the immersive spaces
  • End the morning with Yalla! Chuggim, where students will enrich their learning and deepen their connections to each other and their Judaism through science, art, cooking, gardening, and/or drama activities during Chuggim.

New for 7th Grade
We are offering expanded opportunities for 7th graders to connect, learn and grow!
  1. The same great Kesher on Wednesday nights at 7:00 pm, and
  2. A NEW Madrichol in Training (MIT) Program, which trains 7th graders in communication, problem solving, leadership and other skills needed to be Madrichol in 8th grade.
Kesher & Confirmation
Kesher Wednesdays offer 7th through 10th graders the chance to come together every week at 6:30 pm for free pizza and hang out time before Kesher and Confirmation.
Kesher: 7th-9th graders meet with our rabbis and Kesher faculty Wednesday evenings, 7:00-8:15 pm.
Kesher On the Go returns this year, and includes several field trips throughout the year. Some of these trips may occur on different days and times. More details will be coming this summer.
Confirmation: 10th grade Confirmation class meets on Wednesday evenings with our rabbis, 7:00-8:15 pm.

Madrichol (formerly known as Madrichim) Compensation Update
Students in grades 8-12 are eligible to help on Sunday mornings in Yalla! Starting in 2022-23, we are changing the system to benefit our students: In their first year, Madrichol may earn community service hours. After the first year, Madrichol may apply their hours towards community service OR scholarships to Jewish youth groups events, Jewish summer programs (such as camp and Israel), and B’nai Jehudah travel programs (such as the NYC Confirmation trip). To learn more about the Madrichol program, contact Kelley Cowman.
Welcome Our New Rabbis!
Friday, July 8 | 6:00 pm | B'nai Jehudah
Join us for a special summertime Erev Shabbat service and dinner to help us welcome Rabbi Caitlin Brazner and Rabbi Rachel Rothstein! Following the Shabbat service, we'll enjoy Mexican food, margaritas and the chance to meet our new rabbinic team!
Do you know a Jewish high school student who will be starting college this fall? High school seniors worked hard to get to this point. And now…THEY’RE GRADUATING!

If you know a Jewish student starting college next fall, let Hillel know where they'll be going to school today so they can receive their own graduation gift! Hillel provides services to incoming Jewish freshmen long before they start classes— meaning Hillel is able to welcome these students immediately into the community and help them meet other incoming students.

Students of all backgrounds and denominations are ALWAYS welcome at Hillel, and there's no cost or membership fees to participate. Thank you for connecting these incoming students to their home away from home on campus!
