The Third Sunday after Pentecost
Communication at The Falls Church

I have been with you all at The Falls Church for almost 8 months now – and gosh has it flown by. I’ve jumped into the daily life of TFC through producing the weekly bulletin and enews, alongside being a part of IWC and supporting lots of other ministries.

I wanted to give an update on where things are heading in the coming months, as well as a review of some of the behind the scenes tasks I’ve been working on.

First, the big one, the website. I have been reviewing the website, researching platforms and other Episcopal church websites and garnering the opinions of other Episcopal communicators in order to update our current website. This has led me to a complete overhaul of our website, which is going on behind the scenes in order to keep our web presence active until the new site is ready. I anticipate the switch to the new website sometime in the summer.

Another thing I’ve been focusing on is our presence on social media, ensuring we are constantly sharing what’s going on in church to enable us to have the most reach, meaning people are clear on what events are happening and how they can access them. We’ve also worked to educate and highlight church seasons and saints by focusing on Black saints during Black History Month, and this month, highlighting queer saints of the church. We also share a weekly sermon quote to encourage people to interact with the message throughout the week and to watch the online service. If you don’t already follow us on Facebook and Instagram, please do.

Print materials have been another focus. Despite the world being heavily digital these days, people still want physical things to take away from a new place. I redesigned the welcome leaflet ahead of our stall at the Falls Church Memorial Day celebration so we could give them out to interested citizens. This meant bringing the content up to date with our ministries and updating some of the images to include current members etc. You can pick up a leaflet in church if you’d like to see one, and even share it with friends and family.

In the coming weeks I will launch a campaign to encourage members and worshippers to update their Realm profile, to let us know of any changes in personal details, and to let us know of any previously unrecorded sacraments. You can expect to hear more about this in a couple of weeks.

There are lots of other tasks I’ve been doing across all areas of church life, too many to list and talk about here. As we look ahead I will continue to grow our communication and bring The Falls Church into the midst of the people of this city and this area in whatever ways I can, as well as continuing to serve you, the people of The Falls Church.

The 10:00 a.m. service premieres on YouTube at 9:45 a.m. and remains available afterwards. If you are worshiping virtually, you may follow along with the service bulletin. See the Week-at-a-Glance below for the complete Sunday schedule.
