This week’s second reading in the lectionary is John the Divine’s vision of the new Jerusalem, the dwelling place of mortals and angels in the presence of God after the Great Tribulation. It’s always been a favorite of mine, replete with that gorgeous imagery of streets paved with gold, rivers of crystal, trees of healing, and the constantly illuming presence of God. It’s heaven, literally, and it comes at the end of time.
But we’re not at the end of time! (At least as far as I can tell.)
And since we’re nearing the end of the PROGRAM YEAR and not at the end of TIME, life is rich and vibrant and ongoing at The Falls Church. Until the last Sunday of May, two services continue on Sundays, and formation for children, youth, and adults continues between the services. Youth group continues to come together, Girl Scouts continue to gather, committees keep meeting, choirs keep rehearsing, ministries keep ministering (it’s really a word), and newcomers’ and enquirers classes keep learning. To be clear, life at The Falls Church has not slowed down, and we invite you into the wonderful last days of what has been a strong and varied program year.
Come the first Sunday in June, which is Pentecost this year, we’ll begin our summer schedule, and the pace of things changes around here. But until then, be sure to check out all the offerings for May that you find below and know that we’re not slowing down. We look forward to seeing you at The Falls Church!
