Second Sunday after the Epiphany
A word on communication from Ellie

Hello,

First let me say happy new year and thank you to you all for making me feel so welcome the past 2.5 months, my first Christmas season at The Falls Church was lovely and I felt privileged to be a part of it.

As we look to the new year and plan updates to the way we communicate at The Falls Church I wanted to begin by asking you, the people of the Falls Church, what you want.

E-news is the primary way we communicate everything that is going on at The Falls Church, be it services, special events, kids and youth activities and opportunities to serve. We know that lots of people find this helpful, but we also know that sometimes there is just too much ‘stuff’ in there for you to really digest what you actually want to know.

We also use Realm to send information directly to church members, and we use social media often as a tool to reach those who might not be regulars at The Falls Church, and there is always the traditional word of mouth.

So, we’re going to begin with E-news, and in order to do that, I want to know what you, the audience of e-news, want from your newsletter each week.

I have set up a survey here which you can use to submit your responses, but I am also happy to receive emails at [email protected] and to hear from you in person.

I look forward to hearing from you and working with you on this change,

Ellie
The 9:00 a.m. service premieres on YouTube at 8:45 a.m. and remains available afterwards. If you are worshiping virtually, you may follow along with the service bulletin. See the Week-at-a-Glance below for the complete Sunday schedule.

Preaching on Sunday 16th January: The Rev'd. Matthew Dumont-Machowski
A note from the Rector

Dear siblings in Christ,

In recent days we have become increasingly aware of the severity and increased transmissibility of the COVID-19 Omicron variant. While we believe that we have the space to continue worshiping safely, we ask that each of us remembers to distance safely while at services and activities of The Falls Church, maintaining a mask over both nose and mouth, and refraining from—as hard as it is—hugs and other contact. The air filtration systems in both our worship spaces and in parish hall are in place to provide protection as well. Our concern is always for the most vulnerable among us, and these practices are in place to care for those within our community. If you are uncomfortable being at services on a Sunday, we respect your decision not to be at church and look forward to the time when we can be together again with less anxiety and more safely. Thank you for caring for yourself and for each other.

Vestry Nominations

In last week's e-news we announced the nominations for the upcoming vestry elections on January 30th. You can view the letter from current Senior Warden Paul Rosbolt and the bios of the nominees here.
We have been keeping track of how the Omicron Variant is trending. Safety has always been our priority; because of that, we have made the decision to cancel in-person formation for the month of January with hopes that we will return in February. This means there will be no Youth Forum, no Youth Group, and no Confirmation Class.

We will send youth forum activities for your youth to use in order to provide formation opportunities through this time. Here is this week's Youth Forum Activity.
Children's Formation
The New Year brought with it new challenges with COVID-19. The nature of the new variant, and the number of cases has made it clear that the wisest decision we can make for Children’s Formation is to suspend in-person programming for the month of January. Therefore, there will be no in-person Children's Formation or Nursery in the month of January. We will continue to monitor the situation as things change and hope to be back in person in February.

Every Friday, Children Formation will send out virtual formation options. If you want to subscribe to Children Formation's Emails and Newsletters, please e-mail: [email protected]. Our first podcast comes out tomorrow, Jan 14th. So make sure you are on the list.
