Zero Energy Ready (ZER) Renovation Tour
Wednesday, June 15, 2022
10:00 AM - 11:30 AM or 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM (encore)
19 Boylston Ave Providence, RI

Please join us on June 15th to meet Chris Royer, the owner and architect of 19 Boylston Avenue in Providence. He is opening his home for a free tour of his recently completed renovation that will showcase how, with the help of General Contractor Halmac Construction, the renovation met the design and construction certification requirements of DOE's Zero Energy Ready Home.

We will explore how the project team met their objectives of achieving Zero Net Energy performance without using unusual building practices or materials or adding significant construction costs. The renovation is reducing its carbon footprint using the “Pretty Good House” building concepts.

You will also have the opportunity to speak with Jon Erickson, the project's DOE Zero Energy Homes Verifier, about the basic design approach that ensured the home qualified for National Grid's Residential New Construction Program Incentive. He will discuss the construction techniques and best practices critical for achieving a high-performance home and provide an understanding of the certification process and the role of consultants, standards, and verification.

Our discussion will include the 10-20-40-60 approach for insulation, blower door testing and air tightness achievements, HVAC equipment such as heat pumps and energy recovery ventilation (ERV), and solar readiness

Complimentary light refreshments will be provided
