"Easter Discipleship, Part 3:
Love One Another"
(as I Have Loved You)
WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY
This Sunday we continue our 5-part sermon series called “Easter Discipleship” exploring how Jesus intends his disciples to live in light of the resurrection. Part 3, “Love One Another (as I Have Loved You)”, focuses on Jesus at the last supper with his disciples. After the meal, he does something totally unexpected: he washes their feet! This was unprecedented in the ancient world. A host would normally provide water for guests to wash the dirt and dung off their own feet, or they would have a slave do it, but not Jesus! When he finishes, he ask his disciples if they understand what he has done for them. He has set them an example – an example of what it means to love one another.

Jesus’ question is for you and me, too. Do we understand what he has done for us?  In light of the cross, how should we love one another? And what is the connection between our love for others and our values statement?

Come on Sunday and find out! See you in church –

Blessings,
Don

1734 Legacy Society (A 5-part series)
* Part 2: Why Wait - Jumpstart Your Legacy Now
* Part 3: QCD - The Gift That Can Keep On Giving
* Part 4: Creating A Legacy Gift To The 1734 Legacy Society
* Part 5: The Right Amount For Your Legacy Gift To The 1734 Legacy Society

Part 2: Why Wait - Jumpstart Your Legacy Now
You can make an immediate, positive impact on the 1734 Legacy Society and the life of Silver Spring Presbyterian Church by starting your legacy now.

The 1734 Legacy Society was established to create, through many donations by our generation and generations to come, a multi-million dollar permanent financial endowment for Silver Spring Presbyterian Church through the Fund for the Living Word, the Buildings and Grounds Fund and the Heritage Fund.

Your minimum $1,734 gift of cash, appreciated stock, bonds or municipal funds, cements the start of your individual legacy with the 1734 Legacy Society. In fact, if you are age 70 ½ or older, you may be able to make a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) from your 401(k) or IRA to the 1734 Legacy Society and receive some tax benefits now. More details on why and how you might to do that in the weeks to come.

Start now. Why wait!

Please feel free to contact Bill Vipperman at 717-991-5825 or [email protected] or Bill Resser at 717-580-7667 or [email protected] for more information on the 1734 Legacy Society and Silver Spring Presbyterian Church.
The Story of Stuff
The Earth Care Team invites you to join a lively zoom discussion focused on three educational videos about where all your “stuff” comes from. “The Story of Stuff” is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. "The Story of Stuff " exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. Since "The Story of Stuff" was released in 2007, that organization has released dozens of short videos that help us understand the global impact of our daily activities. We encourage you to also watch “The Story of Microfibers” and “The Story of Solutions.” All videos can be found using the links below:

Please join us on Sunday May 15 at 1:30 pm for a short discussion of these videos via Zoom:

Mission
MATE ROAR TRIP
This is a reminder that the ROAR Team will be returning to Farmington, Maine this summer. MATE stands for Mission At The Eastward and has been helping people in need for over 60 years. SSPC has been participating in this rural ministry in central western Maine for over 25 years. As a reminder, the ROAR Team is not a specific group of people, the ROAR Team, on any given mission trip, is the group of volunteers who are God’s hands and feet on the ground at a specific mission location.

The Team will arrive in Farmington on Saturday, July 30 and depart on August 06, 2022. As always, departure time may vary for some people. The Saturday arrival allows us to worship together on Sunday morning at the Fairbanks Union Church and tour the project sites on Sunday afternoon. We have breakfast and dinner as a group in the St. Jo’s fellowship hall and prepare our lunches to take to the job sites.

We are registered with MATE for the above week. We are scheduled for rooms in a dormitory at the University of Maine, Farmington Campus, and with St. Jo’s church for the kitchen and fellowship hall. At this point in time the college is requiring people who have been vaccinated to have their shot record card with them when we check in at the dorm. People who are not vaccinated will need to take a rapid COVID test after three days (that doesn’t make sense but that is their current policy). Updated information from the college will be passed along when it is available.

If you know anyone who is interested in being part of this ROAR Team, church member or friend of the church, please let them know about the dates and have them contact me, Terry Reed at [email protected], by phone at 717-766-2714, or see me in church.
