"Born in Tokyo to a Japanese mother and an American father, I was privileged to be raised internationally with many friends from across the world.

Later when I became the first in my family to graduate from college, I decided to pursue medicine at the University of Pittsburgh to meld my passions for scientific inquiry and community service with aspirations for international mission work and human rights advocacy. I was chosen as an Albert Schweitzer Fellow during medical school and received an Area of Concentration in Healthcare for the Underserved."
