Dominique Foster, PK-4 teacher at Ward 7’s Friendship Blow Pierce campus was recognized as the 2022 DC Teacher of the Year! Ms. Foster’s PK-4 scholars begin their A typical day in Ms. Foster’s classroom begins with mindfulness practices via meditation, where she guides scholars to release negative energy and embrace positive thoughts. Following meditation, scholars engage in mini-physical exercises that simultaneously prepare them for the lesson of the day or the “Big Idea!” as it’s fondly known in their classroom. Ms. Foster instills in each of her scholars that they are unique and although their young, their voice is a powerful tool. She was embraced by loved ones, colleagues, Mayor Bowser, and the Office of the State Superintendent of Education for her surprise celebration, but it is no secret that this award was well-deserved!
