Hillsborough Police Department Tips to
Prevent Burglaries

The Town of Hillsborough has experienced an increase in residential burglaries over the past three months. This experience is consistent with historical crime statistics in Hillsborough over past holiday seasons. Generally, more burglaries occur during the fall and winter months due to the increased hours of darkness. Additionally, more Hillsborough residents are away from their homes during this time. It appears burglars use this to their advantage as they typically target homes they believe are vacant to avoid potential conflict in contacting residents.

Residential burglaries are not unique to Hillsborough, and frequency is up in the county, state, and nationwide. Criminal tourism has become very prevalent in the United States, with many sophisticated burglary crews coming from South America.

  • Have an alarm installed and properly maintained.

  • If you are leaving, make it appear you are home.

  • Invest in a large, heavy safe.

  • If you have security cameras, make sure they are recording.

  • Consider installing security film on large windows and glass doors.

  • Lock all doors and windows.

  • Be aware of your surroundings. If you see suspicious activity in your neighborhood, call the Hillsborough Police Department at (650) 375-7470

Town of Hillsborough Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Survey
The Town of Hillsborough is in the process of updating its Housing Element, a chapter of the General Plan that outlines the plans and policies the community has in place to ensure we comply with state statutes.

A key tool in meeting Hillsborough’s RHNA will likely be Accessory Dwelling Units and Junior Accessory Dwelling Units. Also referred to as mother-in-law suites, granny flats, second units, and accessory apartments, these small units on single-family lots can help to increase housing options in the community with minimal impact on Hillsborough’s character.

Hillsborough Community Music Festival Auditions 2022

We are thrilled to announce that the Hillsborough Memorial Day Event is back on! We will be mindful of necessary precautions for large gatherings the current environment dictates but since it is an outdoor event, we feel we will be able to provide the same format for the festival as years past.  Please mark your calendar for Monday, May 30th.

The music festival takes place on the North School field mid-day featuring wonderful musicians from the community.

If you or someone you know is interested in performing in the music festival, please send a note to all or one of the festival organizers below:
Corinne Marcus - corinnemarcus@gmail.com, or Kim Gelman - kimgelman@comcast.net, or Richard Huebner - huebner.richard@gmail.com

We accept informal audition videos (iPhone videos are fine), welcome all styles of music and encourage performers of all ages to participate!

Check Your Plastic Before Dropping Off at Town Hall!
Thank you for all your support throughout the TREX recycling challenge with the Bay Area Leos! We have surpassed our goal of 500 lbs and are now at almost 1500 lbs! With the increase in plastic drop offs, we would like to remind you of the plastics that can and cannot be accepted:

  • Any plastic that cannot be stretched is not acceptable. Such examples include: milk cartons, yogurt tubs, hard plastic, candy wrappers, etc. To check, you can stick your finger to make a hole and if the plastic stretches, then you can drop it off!

  • Lastly, please make sure that your plastic is clean and dry prior to drop off!

For further details and more examples, please check this website: https://recycle.trex.com/view/educate
