Today is GIVING TUESDAY!

There are so many worthy programs to support

and OSL is one of them!

We can do so much more because of the generosity of people like you.

Each and every day OSL helps to end hunger, one nutrient dense, culturally relevant, meal at a time.

OSL is a 32-year non-profit meal provider in the City of Seattle, preparing and serving 5000 to 7000 meals each day and recovering more than 2.7 million pounds of meal ingredients, annually, through our Food In Motion (FIM) program.

In 2020, we served 1.9 million meals and recovered and delivered more than 3.3 million pounds of quality ingredients, PPE, and other needed resources into the emergency meal system. OSL contributes thousand of pounds of food, annually, to other meal providers and into Seattle's emergency meal system.

The OSL staff, considered first responders, have been on the front line every day throughout the COVID19 pandemic, at significant cost to health and well being. We haven't missed a meal.

We currently serve 62 shelters, tiny house villages and other organizations, including Compass Housing Alliance, Low Income Housing Institute, Downtown Emergency Service Center, Catholic Housing Services, Catholic Community Services, YWCA, Chief Seattle, Public Defender Association, and other smaller programs that require culturally relevant meals and nutritional support.

Using quality ingredients and fresh produce, often farm to table, supporting local small farms and farmers, our meals are nutrient dense and culturally relevant to many populations, and our purchased product is organic or naturally grown, and local to the United States. All cook staff are trained and become skilled in the math of large batch cooking.

To be instrumental in ending the cycle of poverty, OSL has an ethic of paying equitable wages, with a minimum wage of $45,000 annually. We currently support 66 employees.

For many years, OSL has been on the cutting edge of of advocating for culturally competent meals, food that is naturally grown or organic, and is nutrient dense. We have, over the years, been the bar that nutritional quality for the emergency meal system has been set to. Other meal and food programs are now following suit, using our language, and supporting the OSL ethic.

OSL defines cultural relevancy in many ways. We provide meals for Indigenous populations, East African, Congolese, Cham, Asian, Latin, halal, vegetarian, vegan, diabetic, gluten intolerant, elders, children, those in renal failure, those with oral difficulties, food allergies, and others. We have chefs that specialize in many types of cuisine, whether it is for a dietetic choice, or a need, such as food sensitivities. We operate out of 7 kitchens and have 18 vehicles in our Food In Motion Fleet. 7 of these vehicles are refrigerated.

OSL is an organization that has an institutionalized belief that all of us are worthy of additional opportunities, no matter what struggles we have had in life. We mentor and provide assistance in socialization, housing, communication skills, de-escalation, sensitivity, non-violent, and deliberate communication training.

Each and everyday we serve with empathy and love.

Today, you can support the work that OSL does for those struggling with hunger in our community.

For every dollar donated up to $20,000, will be matched by an Angel OSL donor.
