Meet the new Heritage Arts Apprenticeship pairs!
Gospel singing, Taiko drumming, and more

This week, the Center for Washington Cultural Traditions announced the 2022-2023 Heritage Arts Apprenticeship pairs! Each of the sixteen pairs will focus on a unique cultural tradition, ranging from Taiko drumming to Yakama nation cradleboard making.
The skilled master artists will mentor their apprentice over at least 100 hours of one-on-one time throughout the program year, culminating in a free cultural event for the public.

Washington Festivals & Events grant
The Washington Festivals & Events grants (WFEA) supports events that have taken place for five or more years, in communities of fewer than 100,000 residents.
Grants range from $5,000 to $35,000.
Applications are open until July 1, 2022, at 5:00 p.m.

Working Washington Grants: Round 5
$70 million was appropriated by the legislature for Working Washington Grants: Round 5. Portions of the available funds are set aside for specific sectors, including 60% for the arts, heritage, and science sectors.

Restoration continues on Circle of Light
The restoration of Richard C. “Dick” Elliott’s Circle of Light (1992) is now 50% complete. This 880-foot artwork encircles the Yakima Valley SunDome. Its nearly 50,000 colorful reflectors had begun to deteriorate and will now be replaced.

Join your colleagues to learn about arts, access, and inclusion in early learning communities. The Arts Uplift! conference brings together early learning educators, teaching artists, and leadership working to expand accessible arts instruction in their communities.

Recent Public Art dedications
Glacial Crystals (2022, sculpture) by June Sekiguchi (pictured right, with family) was dedicated at Glacier Middle School on June 2.
Sekiguchi hopes to give “an artful reflection of the wonder and uniqueness of the students, architecture, and location of the school.”
