As announced last week, effective immediately and under the redbox+ used truck guidelines, franchisees are permitted to exercise the option of purchasing used trucks to add to their fleet as their third or more service trucks. The used-truck guidelines are as follows:
1. redbox+ President must approve each truck prior to purchase. - Email your request to support@redboxplus.com
- Provide make, model, year, miles, hours, and gross vehicle weight.
- Provide hoist make, model, and capacity.
- Include a minimum of five photos (one front, rear, left side, right side, and in the cab).
2. The franchise's first two trucks must be new, purchased through redbox+ and upfitted with the vac pump and tank. 3. Upon purchase, franchisees must wrap or paint the used truck cab with redbox+ gray paint (Kenworth color code L0280EY Gun Metal) and apply redbox+ decals to represent our redbox+ brand like the new trucks. 4. Upon purchase, franchisees must weld Department of Transportation (DOT) hooks on the hoist to secure the dumpsters. 5. Waste vacuum pumps and tanks are not required on used trucks. 6. Used trucks need a permanent tarper system prior to use as a redbox+ truck. 7. Franchisees are responsible to ensure used trucks are legally road-ready, safe, and capable of passing inspections per the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), DOT, and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) standards. 8. Kenworth does not provide warranty or policy support to second-owner trucks. 9. Prior to placing the used truck into service, redbox+ corporate must approve the color, logos, the finished condition, the tarper system, and the hooks on the hoist. 10. redbox+ strongly encourages: - Aftermarket warranties (used trucks have higher operating costs than new trucks).
- Late-model roll-off trucks (2015 and newer).
- Trucks with less than 200,000 miles or 10,000 engine hours.
- Franchisees review the service and repair history of the used trucks and have a certified mechanic conduct a full inspection prior to purchase.

Whip Around allows you to create reminders for both managers and drivers for important events and tasks - such as CDL Physicals, Annual Truck Registrations, inspections and other DOT requirements. Here are some helpful resources on creating these for your franchise:
If you have questions or need help setting up a specific reminder, please call or email Ashlynne Nestor at ashlynne.nestor@whiparound.com or (980) 202-4999. |

Resources for Franchise Support |
|
The redbox+ Insider is full of resources for a wide array of topics. However, our franchise support team is always happy to help with anything you may need. Our team has expanded in the past few months and all of us specialize in different areas. To help you find the correct person to contact, we created this map below. This map can also be found on the Insider here under “Our Directories.” |
|
Client Intake Form We all get calls from customers for orders when we are not in front of a computer. It can be hard to make sure that you write down all the necessary information and not to mention, making sure you keep track of that piece of paper that you quickly wrote down the details on.
To make those instances easier, we re-created a Client Intake Form for you to take wherever you go! A special thank you goes to Melissa Gilson of redbox+ of Melbourne for the original creation of this form and for sharing the idea!
The form is available to be printed on the Insider here. We recommend printing off an abundance of pages and putting them into a binder. You can also contact a local printing vendor to have them create a spiral-bound notebook full of pages of the form. |

There is now a redbox+ Equipment chat on Microsoft Teams. This chat is for redbox+ drivers, managers, and owners to share ideas and experiences regarding redbox+ equipment operation, maintenance, repairs, setup, improvements, etc. The intent is to provide a forum for positive, constructive information sharing.
Initial access was given to all franchise owners and RBCs. If you did not receive access to the chat, please contact your RBC. Owners, if you would like additional members of your team added to the chat, please contact your RBC.
Note: The official forum for reporting equipment issues to redbox+ corporate remains the support email at support@redboxplus.com. |

Equipment Lessons Learned George Gavrilis - redbox+ of Denver Metro South |
|
Have you heard the song “Rollin’” by Limp Bizkit? For redbox+ of Denver Metro South, this song is our mantra! We do everything we can to “Keep rollin’, rollin’ rollin’, rollin’.” As you know, what we do is very simple: we deliver dumpsters, dump them, and deliver again as many times as possible. However, to do this efficiently, maximize profit margin, and grow your business over time, is not so simple. There are a lot of moving parts, processes, and relationships that require your (or your General Manager’s) full attention and should be highly prioritized. In my opinion, the highest priority item as a Franchise Owner, next to safety and hiring the best people, should be your equipment (i.e. trucks, dumpsters, and portable toilets). Below are some key equipment lessons learned that will hopefully help you “keep rollin’.”
- Be Proactive!
- Hire experienced drivers that understand the importance of doing the proper daily, weekly, and monthly inspections/maintenance. Use Whip Around.
- If the truck is down for repair, your driver can’t work and make money.
- Don’t shoot the messenger! Have an open-door policy and always encourage your drivers to communicate anything and everything regarding the condition of your trucks and equipment.
- Address any potential and existing equipment issues immediately…don’t kick the can down the road. Your drivers will respect and appreciate you more.
- Make sure you have the required tools and spare parts on board each truck.
- E.g. hand tarp, bungee cords, fuses, heavy-duty duct tape, pop rivet gun, pop rivets, portable toilet door hinges, and spare locks.
- Keep spare parts on-site.
- E.g. tarps, lower and upper tarp arms, tarp motor, tarp pucks, truck headlight bulbs, Dura-seal tires, 30 foot 2” hose, and cleaning wand.
- Buy a 36” Air Comb air compressor attachment to blow out the dust and dirt, away from the engine, that can clog up the radiator on your Kenworth trucks and cause them to overheat (Innovative Products of America 8052 Air Comb).
- Set up an account with a local commercial truck rental company (e.g. Rush Enterprises) to rent a roll-off truck just in case you need a spare.
- Partner with other local, small businesses.
- Befriend a mobile, certified diesel mechanic to do your oil changes/maintenance, annual DOT inspections, and small repairs.
- Make sure they don’t do anything to void your Kenworth Warranty.
- Befriend a medium/heavy duty mobile tire repair and replacement business owner.
- Befriend a mobile truck washing business owner.
- Keep your trucks clean, especially in cold weather areas that use magnesium chloride to de-ice roads.
- Befriend a hydraulic cable repair/replacement business owner (e.g. PIRTEK).
- Befriend a steel cable hoist repair/replacement business owner (e.g. Cable Tech Sling and Supply).
- Befriend a truck part and repair company (e.g. Midwest Truck Parts).
- Pay invoices for these business owners as soon as possible.
- Bring donuts and talk to the technicians doing the actual work and give them a tip.
- Stay in touch with your RIHM Kenworth medium-duty truck repair/maintenance manager.
- Tip the technician working on your truck and bring in a dozen donuts for the shop.
- Extra cash and donuts go a long way.
- Don’t vent your anger/frustration…stay positive, be cheerful, and smile when you interface with the RIHM Kenworth people.
- Honey is better than vinegar!
- Don’t ignore your dumpsters, portable toilets, and aggregate wastewater tank.
- Make sure to grease your dumpster door hinges and wheels at least once every six months.
- Power wash the inside of your portable toilets to remove all the dust, dirt, and debris at least once every six months.
- Keep WD-40 and a wire brush by your aggregate tank to clean out and lubricate the hose coupler you attach to the waste tank on the truck.
- Keep spare 2” rubber hose washers and a spare hose with couplers on-site for your aggregate tank.
