Fall 2021 Travel & Professional Development Grant
The final round of the 2021 FLEX Alumni Travel and Professional Development Grants program is here! The application period is open from August 13 to September 13. FLEX alumni can apply for grant funding of up to $250 for online and in-person professional development opportunities.
Become a CR/UR in your community today!
City and University Representative Program Recruitment is starting this week! CRs and URs work alongside FLEX Alumni Coordinators to organize community service and professional development activities in their home communities, alumni communities, universities, and online. Alumni of all generations and areas of interest are eligible to apply for this volunteer position - training will be provided! To learn more, check out the video above to hear previous CRs and URs from around the world share their experiences improving their professional skills and contributing to the betterment of their hometowns and universities. Exchange Day 2021!
On August 3, American Councils joined organizations around the world in celebrating #ExchangeDay2021! This day is an opportunity for participants and host communities to come together to celebrate the value of international exchange. Did you miss Exchange Day? There’s no time like the present to reach out to a person who made your exchange experience memorable and tell them so. 
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, three FLEX alumni in Georgia founded the organization “Our Creator” to help their community!
Last year, during International Education Week, a group of alumni in Poland organized webinars to inform local students about international education opportunities.
Introducing the Alumni Spotlight – the section in the monthly newsletter where we will highlight a FLEX alumnus/a for their outstanding accomplishments. This month, in honor of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, we are highlighting Abdulvahhobi Muminjoniyon ‘09 from Tajikistan! Abdulvahhobi founded a running team at his organization, the OSCE Academy, which has since completed the Europa Plus Bishkek Music Run and the International Bishkek Marathon.
Introducing our Photo of the Month, where we will showcase photos submitted by you, FLEX alumni! On July 30, the world celebrated International Day of Friendship! This picture was taken by Ilyas Seisov '09 during FLEX Appreciation Day celebration in 2019 when alumni in Turkmenistan gathered to celebrate FLEX.
The Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) Program is a United States Department of State-sponsored program for secondary school students from Armenia, Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Ukraine. The program provides merit-based scholarships for students to travel to the United States, live with a host family, and attend a U.S. high school for a full academic year.
