Olena Vuzka '19 returned from her FLEX exchange year with one goal: to make volunteering more popular in Ukraine. She wasted no time working with fellow FLEX alumni to launch the Volunteer Platform, a one-stop website for NGO's to find volunteers and for potential volunteers to find opportunities. Olena and her team continue to grow the platform by launching a video series, the Late Night Show, and working with interns from the Alumni Internship Program.

Maksat Tynaev '99 spearheaded the "Plast-IK Ecology" movement to encourage recycling in the Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan. With his organizing team, Maksat set up special bins in two cities to separately collect recyclable garbage. In this photo, Maksat is visiting the plastic bottle recycling center in Karakol, Kyrgyzstan to which he sends the collected plastic bottles, cans, and other recyclable garbage.

The Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) Program is a United States Department of State-sponsored program for secondary school students from Armenia, Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Ukraine. The program provides merit-based scholarships for students to travel to the United States, live with a host family, and attend a U.S. high school for a full academic year.
