Today as the island of Jamaica celebrates National Heroes' Day, we mourn the passing of a world hero of Jamaican heritage.

General Colin Powell was the 1st Black Secretary of State of the U.S. who helped shaped American foreign policy. Among his many accomplishments, he was responsible for spearheading the building of the Buffalo Soldier monument in Leavenworth, Kansas.

Powell was born in New York in 1937 to Jamaican immigrants Luther and Maud Powell.

This video of him at CHO's 2021 Caribbean-American celebration is one of his last, if not his last public appearance.(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCAujJ_0B4s).

It will show that General Powell was a proud JaMerican with mutual respect for his American Journey and Jamaican Heritage.

Colin Powell died from complications from Covid-19.

Our sincere and deep condolences to his family.
