CULT EXPERT STEVEN HASSAN, Ph.D
SAYS HE LED A SUPPORT GROUP MEETING
THAT GINNI THOMAS ATTENDED IN 1986
& RELEASES VIDEO

NEW PODCAST EPISODE LAUNCHED TODAY
April 2, 2022
on Ginni Thomas, Lifespring, and The Cult of Trump

TEDx MidAtlantic
APPEARANCE COMING UP:
This Wednesday, April 6, 2022

ABOUT THE VIDEO:

"I was leading a support group meeting in 1986 and Ginni Lamp (Thomas) was an attorney at the time. She was hoping to help others get out of the cult Lifespring. She organized congressional briefings in 1988 and we had a bill that was sponsored to try to pass a bill to memorialize the tragedy at Jonestown with Cult Awareness Week, which unfortunately was never passed," says cult expert Steven Hassan.

"I knew Ginni Lamp Thomas. Ginni was in a cult (the large group awareness training group, Lifespring). The video shows her speaking in 1986 at this ex-member support group. Until March 31, almost NO one had seen this video," continues Hassan.

"As you'll probably notice, Ginni seems likable (and she was)!"

"After she left Lifespring, she got heavily involved in the movement to HELP former cult members exit cults. She also organized a cult awareness briefing for congressional staffers in the late eighties."

"Sadly, the people who helped deprogram Ginni were also apparently involved in right-wing causes. As is the case with SO many former members, she was overly susceptible and went from one cult to another, i.e. to The Cult of Trump."

ABOUT THE PODCAST:

"A tweet thread (@cultexpert) with the video about Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’s wife Ginni went VIRAL with over 2 million views, 5 million impressions, 38,000 likes and 28,000 retweets a couple of days ago.

"Ginni later continued to do cult awareness work, but as is the case with so many former members, she got enmeshed with a new authoritarian cult (The Cult of Trump).

In this podcast, Steve is interviewed by Dan McCollister to flesh out the issues surrounding the radicalization of Ginni Thomas.

Dr. Bandy X. Lee |Dr. Steven Hassan | Nick Carmody, JD, MS Psych

The current war in Ukraine has raised critical questions about the mindset of Vladimir Putin. Many believed him to be a cold rationalist, calculating for concessions from the west. But his actions say something different — about his actual motivations, mindset, and ultimate goals. As he appears to become increasingly isolated, what do science and history tell us about how to gauge his mindset, and how he may behave? And how might insights into Putin’s mindset inform our understanding of so-called authoritarian “strongmen” more broadly? Please join us as three leading experts offer their points of view on this complicated set of topics, and we discuss your questions.

Please join Dr. Bandy X. Lee, Dr. Steven Hassan, and Nick Carmody, JD MS Psych, in conversation with TEDxMidAtlantic host David Troy!

THE CULT OF TRUMP
A Leading Cult Expert Explains How Former President Trump
Uses Mind Control
by Steven Hassan

After his election in 2016, Donald Trump's behavior became increasingly erratic and alarming. He rallied his followers with chants of "fake news" and "build the wall,"and continued to spread the us-versus-them mentality that has continued to divide friends, families, and our nation. And yet many of his followers even now still remain blindly devoted, including Ginni Thomas. Behind this bizarre display of lies and narcissism there is a familiar pattern-of a cult leader and his followers.

Steven Hassan, PhD is considered America's leading cult and mind-control expert. He has been helping people out of authoritarian relationships and groups for more than forty years.

In his book, The Cult of Trump, he takes the reader on a journey into the dark and dangerous world of mind manipulation, drawing parallels between Trump and such notorious cult leaders as Jim Jones, David Koresh, L. Ron Hubbard, and Sun Myung Moon. He describes in compelling, fascinating, and ultimately disturbing detail how Trump mirrors these leaders, both in his narcissistic personality and in the influence and mind-control techniques, including hypnosis, he uses to keep his followers believing in him. Trump claims-like many cult leaders-that only he can "fix"America. Yet, as Hassan shows, Trump is caught in a complex web of influence that includes the Christian Right, the Alt-right, and the right-wing media. He concludes by showing how we can help our loved ones out of the Cult of Trump and protect ourselves from future authoritarian leaders.

An accessible and in-depth analysis of the president, THE CULT OF TRUMP reveals that under the right circumstances, even sane, rational, well-adjusted people can be persuaded to believe the most outrageous ideas and leader.
STEVEN HASSAN, PhD is a mental-health professional who has been helping people leave destructive cults since 1976. He was deprogrammed from Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church by his family. He directs the Freedom of Mind Resource Center, a counseling and publishing organization, outside Boston. He also has taught classes in undue influence at Harvard Medical School to fourth year psychiatry students and others and received his doctorate at Fielding University in 2020.

He is the author of four books, Combating Cult Mind ControlReleasing the BondsFreedom of Mind: Helping Loved Ones Leave Controlling People, Cults and Beliefs and now The Cult of Trump
