Daniel Schacter, PhD, is the William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of Psychology at Harvard University, the Director of Harvard’s Schacter Memory Lab, and an award-winning author whose books include The Sevens Sins of Memory and Searching for Memory: The Brain, The Mind, The Past. After receiving his B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he developed a keen interest in amnesic disorders associated with various kinds of brain damage. Schacter attempted to integrate the clinical phenomenon of amnesia with experimental and theoretical analyses of normal human memory at Oxford University, where he was a visiting researcher in 1978, and at the University of Toronto, where he received his Ph.D. in 1981 and taught until 1987. After four years in the psychology department at the University of Arizona, he began as Professor of Psychology at Harvard in 1991.
