Dear NYS Principals and Administrators,
We are happy to share with you the Emergency Assistance for Nonpublic Schools (EANS) Letter of Intent. EANS is part of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 (CRRSA Act), the second federal economic stimulus package, passed in December 2020. A total of $248.9 million has been made available for New York State's religious and independent schools. These funds will be directly administered by the New York State Education Department (NYSED).
For your school to receive a share of the funds, you must submit a Letter of Intent to NYSED by March 17, 2021. Schools that do not submit a Letter of Intent in one of the approved formats by the deadline will not be able to participate.

- You can also submit the Letter of Intent by mail. It must be postmarked by March 15, 2020. You can access the Letter of Intent by CLICKING HERE. The mailing address can be found in the link provided in the first bullet point.
- For the Letter of Intent Survey Directions, CLICK HERE.
- A portion of the EANS funding is allocated based on the number of students who attend the school who would be eligible for the federal free and reduced-price lunch program. Schools that do not take part in this program and therefore do not collect this information, will need to reach out to their parent body to get a proper count of eligible students. NYSED has provided an EANS Income eligibility survey template that schools can send out to their parents. To access this survey, CLICK HERE.
- There are other methods that are acceptable in calculating and collecting data for low income students. See Section 8a in the Letter of Intent for a list.
Please note: In order to be eligible for this program, your school cannot participate in the Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program after December 27, 2020. PPP loans taken prior to December 27 have no impact on a school's eligibility to participate in EANS. After December 27, a school must choose between EANS and PPP; a school cannot participate in both.
