Hi, Lyon Chapter members:

It's mid-November as we all begin preparing for the Holidays. Wth that in mind, I am sharing plans for our Annual Christmas Party, Sat, Dec 4. We are planning to go 'live' this year and we will be following the appropriate COVID protocols. Mijares Restaurant will be working to make sure we are all safe. I know many of you are looking forward to being together again in person. Me too! We had a very nice retreat at YMCA Camp Oakes in October (our first official 'live' event). I hope to see you in December!

YMCA Camp Oakes Retreat:
"Great weather, food and company..."
We held our first annual (we hope) Lyon Chapter weekend retreat last month at YMCA Camp Oakes in the San Bernardino mountains. In attendance were (left to right in the top photo) Lindy Lindeman, Bob Warnock, Tisha de Feliz, Pat and Tim Hardy, Monica Warnock, and Tom and Gwen Cram.

The weather was beautiful, the food was terrific, and the company was best of all. We hiked, canoed, sang around the campfire, had an inspiring chapel service in the Kamp Kole Memorial Chapel (photo left with Tim and Tom), jigsaw-puzzled, enjoyed an informative presentation by Lindy of her volunteer experience at the Sioux YMCA’s Camp Marrowbone in S.D., ate like royalty and just hung out and visited. My favorite part: the hanging out and visiting. Most interesting revelation of the weekend: Tim Hardy is a funny guy!

We were reminded how fun YMCA camp is, and resolved to do this again next year with, we hope, a bigger group of us.

A note from Phyllis...
Glad to be back “in person” again for our annual Christmas luncheon December 4 at Mijares Restaurant in Pasadena. Our friends at Mijares have agreed to keep our price the same at $35. It pays to have long-term relationships for events like these! -- Phyllis Murphy
National Service Project gains momentum
Our YMCA Alumni National Service Project began more than 18 months ago with 17 volunteer chapter representatives meeting regularly.

Today, close to 100 members have taken on volunteer roles as the project gains momentum.

By way of recap: The National Service Project Committee selected the Sioux YMCA as our partner in our first multi-year project. The plan is to build tiny homes and program centers ("twigs") on the Reservation. It has received unanimous approval from the full committee and National Board.

“We wanted a project that would be both challenging and doable,” said Paul Andresen who represents our Lyon chapter on the National Committee. “We’re excited about the response so far, but we will need many more volunteers in a variety of different capacities to make the project a reality.”
