If we leave the world alone, it will collapse into hell and misery. The only way it can be helped is for us to let people know why it is happening so they can correct the whole situation. This is where the concept of judgment comes in. Someone has to say, "That is absolutely wrong, and this is the way it ought to be instead." Who will do that? Abels have to do that. Guest Pastor George Cook gave a fascinating presentation on the real date of Jesus' birth. He concluded that, regardless of the date, Jesus came as the light into a very dark world. Despite this darkness, every time a woman becomes pregnant and says “yes,” as Mary did, to the divine spark of life in her womb, we should rejoice. We can celebrate the birth of Christ and show love to people 365 days of the year. |

In the Soul Sisters 122 broadcast, Diana Aiga gave another take on the meaning of the Christmas tree celebration, involving St. Boniface who in the 8th century sought to convert Germanic pagan worshippers in the village of Geismar gathered around a huge old oak tree (known as the “Thunder Oak”) dedicated to the god Thor. This annual event of worship centered on sacrificing a human, usually a small child, to the pagan god. |

Boniface is said to have grabbed an axe and chopped down the Thunder Oak of mighty Thor. The Germans were astounded. He then preached the Gospel to the people and used a little fir tree that was behind the now felled oak tree as a tool of evangelization. Pointing to it he said,
“This little tree, a young child of the forest, shall be your holy tree tonight. It is the wood of peace… It is the sign of an endless life, for its leaves are ever green. See how it points upward to heaven. Let this be called the tree of the Christ-child; gather about it, not in the wild wood, but in your own homes; there it will shelter no deeds of blood, but loving gifts and rites of kindness."
