A growing number of funders in Connecticut are exploring ways to incorporate community voices into the philanthropic process. Recognizing that authentic relationships and clear accountability to communities are core to advancing equity in philanthropy, funders are increasing impact by inviting communities closest to an issue to bring analysis, expertise and solutions to the table.
Participatory and community-led grantmaking can be powerful tools for improving grantmaking and centering equity. But key elements of such programs must be thoughtfully addressed to ensure mechanisms and approaches support accountability, transparency, collaboration, and sharing power - and set a course that builds trust and empowers those closest to an issue to be part of the philanthropic response.
In this engaging session, three CCP members will share their experiences with participatory and community-led grantmaking, including why they prioritized this approach as well as key questions, best practices, and lessons learned. Participants will also have the opportunity to join the conversation and share their own questions, experience, and learning.
