We want to express our deep gratitude for your invaluable support over the years and to kindly request your continued partnership in making Chanco on the James a place where God is present in nature every day.

Chanco has been a beacon of positive change for the youth and adults in our community for more than 55 years. It has provided young individuals with a safe and nurturing environment to learn, grow, and develop essential life skills. Your generous contributions have played a significant role in making our scholarships and summer programs possible. The impact of the Retreat program on the lives of our adult and youth participants is immeasurable, fostering creativity, collaboration, and connections in nature.

As we face ongoing challenges in an ever-changing landscape, we seek your assistance to ensure that our year-round activities remain accessible and enriching for all who wish to participate. This year, we are focusing on a Creation Recreation Initiative, expanding programs, providing scholarships, and improving camp facilities to enhance safety and comfort. Your donation, no matter the size, can make a significant difference in supporting our mission.

Fall Work Weekend

November 3–5

Are you ready to make a positive impact on our beloved Chanco? Come out and join us for a fun weekend and wonderful fellowship and give back to Chanco by helping us get some fall projects completed.

Come for the whole weekend and enjoy evening social time together or just come for Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. Come on your own or come as a family, all are welcome. We offer free overnight accommodation in Watson so register early to reserve your spot!

Why Serve At Camp Chanco?

As a Chanco staff member, you will develop skills in collaboration and communication, develop resilience and grit, and grow as a servant leader. In addition to participating in fun activities like sailing, ziplining, and nature hikes, our staff have the unique opportunity to leave a lasting impact in the lives of our campers. All our jobs are paid bi-weekly and include lodging and meals for the duration of the summer. Additionally, many of our positions can be turned into an internship for college credit. If you want to be a part of a supportive, Christian community focused on personal and professional growth, then Camp Chanco is the place for you.

Summer Camp 2024 Registration is Open!

Chanco on the James has one of the most successful youth camping programs in Virginia. The camp program has been running continuously since 1968, is accredited by the American Camping Association, and regularly enjoys being voted number one "Best Summer Camp" by Virginia Living Magazine.

This residential camp for campers ages 8 to 16 years is a place for having fun, making friends, trying new things, and enjoying God's creation. Campers will experience daily worship as well as fun activities such as zip lines, sailing, archery and so much more, all while learning Chanco's core values of friendship, spirit, and love.
