RT was isolated and trapped in an abusive relationship. Despite the violence she faced, she found the courage to seek a restraining order. When she got to Superior Court, she found the court process was complicated and she was uncertain about how best to proceed. She had a lot of questions. GHLA attorneys, working with Interval House advocates, in the Restraining Order Project were there to listen, provide legal advice, and answer her questions. A Judge granted RT’s request for a restraining order. RT and her children now have the legal protection a restraining order provides and can begin to heal from the harm of violence.
GHLA attorneys have represented survivors of domestic violence for decades in a wide range of legal matters, providing trauma-informed and culturally responsive services. This year, thanks to a Restraining Order Project funded by the General Assembly, GHLA attorneys are advising and supporting indigent domestic violence victims at Family Court who are applying for restraining orders.
