Our department has made important changes to evolve our curriculum to address the needs of the populations we care for. While the pandemic raised uncertainties about how we teach learners and treat patients, it enabled us to innovate and develop new teaching methods for our learners. During the past two years, our department secured a number of eCampusOntario grants and delivered several innovation projects in collaboration with various partners. Due to this funding, we have leveraged the potential of virtual reality and gamification to teach our learners concepts outside of traditional methods: Contamination Control & Spread, an immersive experience on how contaminates can be transmitted and controlled in our everyday exchanges; Escape the Office, a virtual reality escape room on quality improvement; Under Pressure, an application as a pedagogical tool for producing a safe environment to teach about stress and anxiety. The eCampusOntario grants also led to the development of Socially Accountable Primary Care, a series of online modules where learners and faculty members truly understand the impact they can have on marginalized communities internationally and within Canada. This project was led by Dr. Denice Lewis, the DFM's Curriculum Director, and developed by a multi-disciplinary team of subject matter experts and the DFM's Project Management Office.
Lastly, I want to thank our faculty members for participating in today's first Curriculum Review Advisory Group (CRAG) in two years. Led by Dr. Denice Lewis, this event explored the use of digital learning modalities (eLearning) into our current curriculum. |
