Greetings to Our Hub on Canal Supporters,

When we discuss the Outreach Programs administered by The Hub, those conversations most often involve children. That's fitting, I suppose, because by the numbers served, The Hub's programming overwhelmingly supports kids.
It's not all about the kids, however. The Hub serves special populations of adults as well. These programs deserve greater recognition than they get.
Since June is National Alzheimer's Awareness Month, let me start there. Several years ago, The Hub began a partnership with the Alzheimer's Association. Originally called Memories in the Making, this program uses art therapy to help patients with mild to moderate cognitive impairment make their way through the disease's progression. Patients attend with their caregiver in weekly 60-90 minute classes in 7-week blocks. A 2-week pause follows before classes resume. The classes are free.
The program is now called Art Connects ALZ. The next 7 week's block of classes begins at The Hub on July 6 (the informational flyer is nearby). If you believe your loved one could benefit from this program, please reach out to Sheila Collins, R.N., to discuss. Her contact information is on the flyer.
The Hub is also proud to be associated with Rose Traub's Assisted Living Made Simple. Among other services, Rose hosts an Alzheimer's caregivers support group at The Hub. Her group meets monthly, sharing the challenges, joys, and small victories inevitably confronted by caregivers. If you're a caregiver to an Alzheimer's patient and would like to learn more or register to join this group, please reach out to Rose at 386-847-2322.
The Hub's Outreach to adults is not limited to Alzheimer's patients. Since about 2017, The Hub has had a partnership with the national organization Guitars for Vets (G4V). G4V promotes the treatment of PTSD via learning to play the guitar. Referral into the program has to come from a VA facility provider.

Once the referral is made, the veteran starts the program with a series of group lessons which are followed by a group of private lessons. After all the lessons are successfully completed, the graduate is given a new guitar plus accessories. Numerous graduation ceremonies have been held at The Hub.
The graduation guitars are provided by G4V, The instructors are provided by The Hub. We're happy to report that for the first time, last November's Veteran's Music Night included performances by several G4V graduates. If you or a loved one are a veteran suffering from PTSD and would like to participate in this program, please contact the VA and ask about the G4V program. The program is free.

MUSIC NIGHT - Summer Cats
Friday, June 10, 7-9 pm
Hailing from the Daytona Beach area, five musicians got together to form Summer Cats to fill the gap in live music during the summer months when so many of their “snowbird” musician friends head north for cooler climes. The joy of making music and the camaraderie of Summer Cats’ members is wholly apparent when they perform classic rock, country, blues, originals and a just wee bit of Irish! (More)
Art in the Form of Film:
Good Night, and Good Luck (2005)
Friday, June 17, 5:45-9pm

Described as a film that engages the heart and the mind, Good Night, and Good Luck, addresses themes of McCarthyism, loyalty oaths, and principled journalism. Featuring a stellar cast including David Strathaim, Patricia Clarkson, Robert Downey, Jr., and its director George Clooney, this multi-Oscar nominated B/W film strikes a disturbingly contemporary chord. (More)

The accolades for Sandy Lloyd keep piling up. It wasn't that long ago that Sandy Lloyd became only the second artist from Volusia County to be inducted into the Florida Artist's Hall of Fame. For some time now she has also had a permanent installation at the Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art in Daytona Beach. The latest recognition of her success as a Florida Landscape painter par excellence is her upcoming installation into the law offices of Cobb Cole, also in Daytona Beach. We're proud to count Sandy as a Hub artist and in fact one that has been part of The Hub family almost since we opened our doors in 2012. Congratulations Sandy!
Our Razzle Dazzle Fashion Show happened last month on the 15th at the Brannon Center. More than 250 guests witnessed an amazing show. We were pleased to showcase the work of our 17 Fashionistas who worked so hard all school year long to design and produce the garments that were modeled at the show. We're still putting together the full media package but if you click on the link below you'll be taken to the Razzle Dazzle page of our Signature Events website where you'll find the 2022 photo album, which includes a good selection of runway shots. There will be more to follow in the days ahead. Enjoy!
