Message from the Mayor
Over the last several days, I am hearing of many Dunwoody families who are being impacted by Covid. If you find yourself needing a Covid test or a vaccine, a reminder that the City has resources listed here.

There are long lines at places that don’t require appointments and even at some that do. If you are going to need a negative test to travel or to attend an event, now is the time to start planning. You probably should make an appointment now, even if it is for later this month. A reminder that many urgent cares, including Dunwoody Urgent Care, take appointments.

Many of you have reached out to me and asked how I am managing this recent surge. My family is vaccinated. We are masking in crowded indoor situations. I am masking while shopping and washing my hands all the time.

I am not panicking, but I am being careful. Everyone knows their own and their family’s situation. Make your plans accordingly. The current CDC guidance for counties with high spread, like DeKalb, states that mask-wearing is an important strategy to keep you and others healthy. The CDC also states that “everyone 2 years or older who is not fully vaccinated should wear a mask in indoor public places.” Please take care and give one another space and grace.
New businesses, new infrastructure
Celebration x 19! Dunwoody cut a ribbon for the opening of news businesses and public works projects 19 times in 2021. Click here to watch.
Completed in 2021:
Public Works

The City of Dunwoody completed sidewalk construction along Tilly Mill Road, enhancing pedestrian safety and connectivity. The new five-foot-wide sidewalk runs along the west side of Tilly Mill Road between North Peachtree Road and Womack Road. As part of the project, Tilly Mill Road was widened to accommodate four-foot-wide designated bicycle lanes on both sides of the road, and a short section of sidewalk on the east side of Tilly Mill was replaced.

The project involved extensive utility relocation, stormwater improvements and easements. The $1.6 million project was funded using local sales tax revenue. Next, Dunwoody Public Works will begin the design phase for a project to extend a bicycle and walking path from Womack Road to Mt. Vernon Road on Tilly Mill. Click to see more.
Read all about it! Dunwoody is featured in the Guide to the Central Perimeter in the December issue of Atlanta Magazine. Check out some of the "tried-and-true places to eat and imbibe." See if you've visited the top photo ops in our community. And learn about "new and revamped hotels, bars and entertainment spaces" attracting locals and visitors alike. The issue is linked here and on newsstands now (pages 105-114)!

Still making holiday preparations? Keep these sustainable practices in mind...

Electronics
Electronics make great holiday gifts, but often are upgrades that replace still usable equipment. If you have a working electronic product without a purpose for you, consider donating it or recycling it at Dunwoody's next Electronics Recycling event, scheduled for March 27.

Festive, fun, and food
Have a localvore holiday feast! Hit up your farmers' markets, organic stores, co-ops, and your own garden for all the fixings for your holiday dinner. Compost food scraps and outdated leftovers. Avoid disposables in the kitchen. Use real dishes and silverware. Switch to recyclable aluminum foil instead of plastic wrap to store leftovers.

When it's time to take down the tree
DeKalb residents receiving sanitation services can place their tree at the curb for pick-up on regular yard waste collection days through January, and the trees will be turned into mulch and wood chips. Trees should be seven feet or smaller. Trees eight feet or larger need to be cut in half for curbside pick-up. Mulch is used for public beautification projects and is free to DeKalb County residents. Trees can also be recycled at most Home Depot locations.
