Use Your Legs to Step Out of Your Comfort Zone
Getting out of the comfort zone isn’t easy for anyone. Humans tend to fall into patterns of behavior that are familiar. We go back into relationships, work roles, and health habits that we find comfortable—but aren’t always best practices. In particular, the comfort zone can keep us from taking ourselves to the next level.

There is no place where this is truer than in swimming. If you always train the same way your results will not change. You will get to a point where you no longer improve, rather, you maintain. A typical comfort zone enabler in swimming is the pull-buoy. Yet the ubiquitous pull-buoy draws many AGUA Masters team swimmers into the comfort zone thinking, “I am faster when I pull.” No, you are not. Even if that were the case, you are short-changing yourself. When you use a pull-buoy, you are doing 40% of the work in that practice set. Try stepping out of the comfort zone and leave the pull-buoy in your swim bag!

Support Asphalt Green's Angel Macias at the New York City Marathon
Asphalt Green’s Angel Macias, Waterproofing Supervisor and Swim School Administrator, will be running this year’s New York City Marathon. He runs to raise money and build awareness for Asphalt Green's mission: providing access to sports and fitness opportunities for all New Yorkers. Waterproofing is particularly close to his heart.

Good luck to Angel, and our thanks for representing Asphalt Green Aquatics at the marathon this year. Learn more about Angel's marathon journey on our blog and support him by visiting his marathon page.

We will share Angel’s bib number closer to the event so you can track his run. Are you running in the marathon? Let us know so our team can cheer you on!
