Dear AGUA Masters,
I am overjoyed to announce that after an extensive search we have hired
Jim Wu as the new Asphalt Green AGUA Masters Swim Team Head Coach! Jim comes to Asphalt Green with over 20 years of national and international swimming experience, both as an athlete and a coach.
Jim moved all around the world growing up — a challenging experience — but for him, the pool was always a constant. His dedication to swimming saw him training in places like Dallas, TX, Anchorage, AK, Saudi Arabia, and Switzerland.
Later in life, Jim continued his swimming career by joining the U.S. Masters Swimming circuit where he earned top 10 performances in two relays in 2010 and 2011. Additionally, Jim was presented with the USMS Fitness Award in 2014. He has built an extensive dryland program to benefit all-around athletic performance that he incorporates into his Masters training regimen.
Jim turned his love for the sport into a part-time job in 2011 and quickly realized his passion for coaching. Coach Jim’s professional aquatics experience includes Bearcats Masters, TriLatino Triathlon Club, and New York Aquatics Club, among others. Most recently, he served as the Bearcat Masters head coach here in New York City, where he led the team to a top 10 USMS Club award in 2018.
Coach Jim is a swim enthusiast at his core and he welcomes swimmers of all backgrounds, experiences, and skill levels. He is USMS Adult Learn-to-Swim Instructor certified and prides himself in helping all people develop their skills in a competitive environment. He loves open-water swimming and has ambitions to take AGUA Masters back to the New York State Championship Meet. When he is not on the deck, Jim is cycling around the city or spending time with his dog, Pumba.
We are excited about everything AGUA Masters will accomplish with Jim at the helm, and we are confident that Jim will raise the bar for the AGUA Masters program both in and out of the pool.
