The Mississippi School Boards Association is currently conducting the Superintendent Search for the Lawrence County School District.
The Lawrence County School District is seeking an innovative and data-driven educational leader who has a proven record of raising student achievement, who has current, hands-on experience with the Mississippi accountability system, and who has demonstrated the ability to develop positive relationships with all stakeholder groups.

ABOUT THE DISTRICT
Lawrence County School District has five schools. At the northern end of Lawrence County is New Hebron Attendance Center. This K-8 school serves about 290 students. In the center of the county, there are three schools. Monticello Elementary School serves about 340 students in grades K-4. Rod Paige Middle School serves about 280 students in grades 5-8. Lawrence County High School, which includes Lawrence County Technology and Career Center, is the district's only high school serving about 540 students in grades 9-12. At the southern end of the county, Topeka Tilton Attendance Center serves about 310 students in grades K-8. Lawrence County School District has approximately 140 certified teachers.
Lawrence County is a 4A classification, the third largest school classification in the MHSAA system. From archery, to track and field, to football and beyond, the district has plenty of sporting and extracurricular activity opportunities on very successful teams with tradition and expectation of future success. Graduates can be found at all of the surrounding four-year universities. The Technology and Career Center is one of the best in the state, allowing students who choose to follow a technological based career track to do so with excellent instructional expertise, equipment, and introductory hands-on experience that provides them with an excellent beginning foundation.

ABOUT THE COMMUNITY
Lawrence County is a small community with an excellent school system where students are actually known by their name instead of their numbers. The county is a thriving community of dedicated and hardworking residents committed to the economic success of local businesses. Lawrence County is located on the mighty Pearl River in southwest Mississippi, just 64 miles southwest of the state capital, Jackson. The county is also 123 miles from New Orleans, LA, 82 miles form historical Natchez, MS, and 125 miles from the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The Atwood Music Festival is the longest running music festival of its type. This event consistently brings a mix of country, southern rock, and gospel music that gives all music lovers a Memorial Day weekend full of fun, food, and fantastic entertainment.

Applicant Criteria & Qualifications
|
|
The Superintendent of Education serves as the chief executive officer of the school district and is responsible to the Board of Trustees for ensuring compliance with all board policies and Mississippi State Board of Education rules and regulations, as well as state and federal laws.
Only applicants who fit the following criteria and qualifications defined by the board will be considered for the position.

- Must meet criteria outlined in MS Code 37-9-13.
|
|
QUALIFICATIONS DEFINED BY THE BOARD

- Evidence of a recent documented track record of raising the achievement level of all students.
- Values stakeholder input and has the ability to develop and to sustain the support and trust of the community.
- Has an interest in recruiting, investing in, and retaining high quality personnel.
- Has the understanding of the importance of educating all students, including students with special needs.
- Has experience with diverse populations and student needs; understands the challenges of a rural school district.
- Has the ability to develop a climate of trust and openness with all stakeholders.
- Possesses effective communication skills including speaking, listening, writing, and technology.
- Has demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with the board members.
- Can provide evidence of successful leadership in: Budget preparation and management; Strategic planning; Problem-solving; and Decision-making.
- Ensuring safety for all students and staff.
- Is committed to becoming an active member of the community.
