The Mississippi School Boards Association is currently conducting the Superintendent Search for the Neshoba County School District.


The Neshoba County School District is seeking an innovative and data-driven educational leader who has a proven record of raising student achievement, who has current, hands-on experience with the Mississippi accountability system, and who has demonstrated the ability to develop positive relationships with all stakeholder groups.

ABOUT THE DISTRICT


The Neshoba County School District’s vision is for all students to graduate college and career ready with courses, certifications, and external opportunities beyond a high school diploma. Simply stated, to graduate with more than a high school diploma. The district offers multiple pathways to meet students’ needs from dual credit college courses, STEM courses, and national industry certifications. 


The district offers a robust reading program and multiple extracurricular activities such as an award-winning Naval ROTC program, an all-superior Big Blue Band, and a variety of arts programs. High level opportunities such as engineering and digital media are offered among many other career and technical courses.


The district has partnered with East Central Community College’s Workforce Development for additional opportunities and also hosts East Central Community College’s Precision Machining class. In Fall 2021, the NCSD opened the Manufacturing and Innovation Center (M&I Center) which houses workforce development and other opportunities for students to use in creative ways. The district invested over $1 million in renovations and equipment for the M&I Center.


The NCSD offers dyslexia therapy at all schools. Gifted education is available for grades 2-6. Four pre-K classes provide developmentally appropriate activities.


Since 2015, the NCSD has completed more than $30 million in new construction and renovations. Currently, there are $12 million in projects scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2023. The district is committed to creating a 21st century learning environment for all students.


The NCSD is a 1:1 district which means each student has access to his/her own computer device. Classrooms are also equipped with interactive displays and other technology to support student achievement.


Each school is staffed with a school nurse. The district employs a social worker and has a partnership with Neshoba General Hospital to host a medical clinic on campus for students and staff. 


Neshoba County School District continually strives to give students a well-rounded education with multiple pathways for students to be successful. 


ABOUT THE COMMUNITY


The Neshoba County School District is located in the city of Philadelphia, MS. Neshoba County is the home of the Neshoba County Fair and the Choctaw Indian Fair, as well as the new Marty Stuart Congress of Country Music. There are numerous venues for relaxation and fun, such as The Depot Family Fun Center, Canal Place Cinema, Dancing Rabbit Golf Course, and Geyser Falls Water Park. The county also has numerous boutiques and shopping opportunities, such as the historic Williams Brothers General store, and a variety of restaurants.

Applicant Criteria & Qualifications
The Superintendent of Education serves as the chief executive officer of the school district and is responsible to the Board of Trustees for ensuring compliance with all board policies and Mississippi State Board of Education rules and regulations, as well as state and federal laws.

Only applicants who fit the following criteria and qualifications defined by the board will be considered for the position.
CRITERIA
  • Must meet criteria outlined in MS Code 37-9-13.

QUALIFICATIONS DEFINED BY THE BOARD
  • Evidence of a recent documented track record of raising the achievement level of all students (2016 – present)
  • A minimum of three years of experience in an “A” or “B” school or district
  • Has served as a superintendent or assistant superintendent (preferred)
  • Has served as a principal in an “A" or “B” school for a minimum of three years
  • Is an effective communicator, including speaking, listening, writing, and technology
  • Ability to develop a climate of trust/openness with all stakeholders
  • Willingness to maintain an open-door policy with all stakeholder groups to benefit students and the district
  • Ability to develop a formal process for communicating with all stakeholders, including the board members
  • Has successful experience in school finance to include budgeting, financial decision-making, monitoring, and reporting
  • Experience with MS laws related to curriculum and instruction, special education, human resources, operations, and finances
  • Evidence of decision-making focused on student outcomes, students, needs, and student well-being
  • Willingness to and ability to work cooperatively with the school board members and to keep them informed
  • Uses a team management approach
  • Ability to develop a positive rapport, while providing strong leadership to administrators, teachers, and other school personnel
  • Ability to recruit, retain, and invest in the development of highly qualified personnel
  • Has experience in developing a climate of high expectations and accountability
  • Has a strong commitment to pursue academic innovations for all grade levels
  • Is an advocate for students
  • Is honest and transparent; has highest moral and ethical standards of conduct; has a strong work ethic
  • Is committed to living in the school district with his/her family and being an active and visible member of the community
