ABOUT THE COMMUNITY
Leake County has the distinction of being located in the geographic center of the state! It is the only square-shaped county at 24 miles square and is home to three communities – Lena, Walnut Grove, and Carthage. The county’s heritage is reflected through its people.
Historically known for annual events such as the Oktoberfest Arts and Crafts Festival, Square Affair, South of the River Roux, and its Magnolia Stockyard exotic animal sale establishes Leake County as a family friendly community. Three parks offer opportunities for swimming, fishing, boating, and hiking. The Leake County Water Park features a nature trail. Golden Memorial Park is home to a historic one-room schoolhouse. And, Low Head Dam is a location chosen by those who like a rugged approach to camping.
Well-developed and well-equipped modern facilities are housed in Leake County. Tyson Foods, the largest chicken processing plant in the world, the Baptist Memorial Hospital and Clinic, and a multitude of other healthcare providers that specialize in the area of pharmaceutical, optometry, and dentistry all make up the expansive workforce in the county.
