Fall 2021 Flex Week
The Center for Teaching and Learning and the Instructional Technology Center at American River College are happy to present our professional development events scheduled for Fall Flex Week, Tuesday, August 17 to Friday, August 20, 2021.
 
Here are some important things to know about Fall 2021 Flex Week:
  • Events will be held on ConferZoom.
  • Each event includes either a direct link to the event, or a link to registration, if required.
  • Please check the Flex Week schedule prior to the events you want to attend as minor changes may be made through the beginning of Flex week.

Keynote: Biography for Dr. Sharla Berry
Dr. Sharla Berry is an educator and an expert in the field of teaching and learning with technology in
K-20 environments. She received her doctorate in Urban Education Policy from the University of Southern California, and her Master of Arts in Elementary Education from Loyola Marymount University. Dr. Berry is currently an Assistant Professor of Education Leadership at the Graduate School of Education at California Lutheran University. Prior to becoming a professor, Dr. Berry taught elementary and middle school in Los Angeles. As a K-12 educator, Dr. Berry was focused on preparing underrepresented students for college.

She is the author of Degree for Free: How to Save Time and Money on Your College Education, a culturally relevant guide to college access for first-generation students of color. She currently conducts research on teaching, learning, and equitable community-building in virtual K-20 environments. Her research has been featured in many academic journals including Online Learning, the Journal of Computing in Higher Education, and the International Review of Research in Open and Distributed Learning, and at academic conferences including the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE). Dr. Berry is also an evaluator, and has been a fellow with the American Evaluation Association (AEA).

Important Announcements 

Here are some helpful reminders for the college community:
 
 
  • Parking: No parking permits will be issued for the fall semester. Los Rios police will not be ticketing.
 
 
  • Free Speech: Please be aware that outside groups occasionally visit campus exercising their constitutionally protected right to free speech. These groups might display images or engage in speech that is offensive to some. Learn more about free speech on campus.

This fall the college will be offering a limited selection of Student Support Services in the LRC, in addition to services offered online.

Student Deadlines
Here are some key student deadlines for fall full-term classes.
  • September 3 - Last day to drop classes and qualify for a tuition refund
  • September 5 - Last day to enroll in classes; also last day to drop classes without notation on record
