National Coming Out Day
National Coming Out Day

National Coming Out Day will be celebrated globally on Monday, October 11. Founded on the idea that increased visibility leads to decreased bias, this day encourages members of the LGBTQ+ community to come out and live their true identity.

We want to acknowledge that there are many reasons that people may not be “out.” Society is not always a safe and welcoming place. Coming out is brave and freeing, but can be difficult.

On October 11, we recognize all those who live their lives openly, proudly, and without shame. We celebrate the LGBTQ+ students, faculty, staff, and administrators who make our college a more inclusive and equitable place.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. According to the CDC other than skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women. Mammograms are the best way to find breast cancer early, when it is easier to treat and before it is big enough to feel or cause symptoms. The National Breast Cancer Foundation provides early detection screenings, including mammograms, breast health education and a supportive community. For more information please visit:

Grade for Equity and Reclaim Your Time in CE/CTE Programs

Grading for equity doesn’t have to be hard and it certainly doesn’t have to create more work for you as the instructor. Together we’ll take a look at what grading for equity actually means and then analyze how we can revise or create assignments that truly get to the heart of the matter, preparing students for the workforce. This is just the beginning of reimagining CE/CTE programs and the equitable impact they can have on ARC students. This event meets State PD Guidelines A, B, and C; ARC Strategic Goal 3; ISLOS 1, 5, 7, and 8. This professional development activity is designed for American River College employees and invited participants. The presenter is Asha Wilkerson, Legal Studies; flex credit is 1.5 hours.

This workshop will be offered at two different times. Register for one of the following dates:
