Fourth Sunday of Lent
I will get up and go to my Father
and shall say to him:
Father, I have sinned against
heaven and against you.
- Luke 15:18
The Pastor’s Corner
March 27th 2022

Dear Friends and Families of SVDP

Now that we are halfway through our Lent season, there is still time to begin our own renewal. We might once again begin our religious practices that we used to do before COVID-19. Many people have made the comment that they miss meeting their long time friends within their spiritual community. Some asked that we once again invite our parishioners to share coffee and donuts after the Sunday Masses. They want to build back our community and to invite new parishioners to get to know each other.

I had the opportunity to visit the site of “Ground Zero” (September 11, 2001) a few years ago. I visited an Episcopalian church nearby the site of Ground Zero. They featured a postcard that read, “You might think that our stain glass windows are beautiful, but you should come and see our parishioners.”

I think here at SVdP, we can boast about how beautiful our stain glass windows are AND our parishioners. I would even suggest that they are the most beautiful windows in San Francisco

Last week we experienced two joyful gatherings; the Men’s Club annual Spring meeting and the school auction event titled, “Blazers and Baubles.” Both events were attended by Fr. Idoko and myself. And congrats to all those members who helped make both events a great success. Many hands make light work. I myself offered a free funeral at the auction, but no one bid on it!

“If you want to go to heaven when you die, you need not wear a collar or a tie, but wear a silver bonnet with St. Vincent De Paul upon it, if you want to go to heaven when you die.”

Amen!

Parish Volunteers Needed
Liturgical Ministry
Would you like to get more involved at Mass? There are many opportunities for members of our parish family to share their time and talents to assist in our liturgical celebrations. We invite you to consider volunteering in one or more of the following ministries:

Lectors
Lectors serve at Mass by proclaiming the sacred scripture during the Liturgy of the Word. It is the role of the lector to read the 1st and 2nd readings, as well as, the intercessions.

Ushers
Ushers act as ministers of hospitality at Mass. They greet and assist members of the congregation. In addition, they are responsible for taking up the collection at Mass and distributing bulletins at the conclusion of Mass.

Eucharistic Ministers
The priest is considered the ordinary minister of the Eucharist. The laity participate in this ministry as extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist, assisting the priest in the distribution of Holy Communion. This ministry is open to practicing Catholics who have made their Confirmation.

Note: The San Francisco Archdiocese requires that Eucharistic Minister candidates undergo sufficient training. So if you are interested, the Rectory will introduce you to the proper channels to complete this training

Technical Assistant
The parish is also looking for people to assist with the Technical aspects of live-streaming the mass for those still unable to make it to in-person mass. If you feel you have the technical capabilities, we would love to have you involved.

If you are interested in becoming a liturgical ministry volunteer, Please complete the form in the link below and submit it to us. We will be in contact soon with more information. We look forward to your participation!

Online Giving from Our Sunday Visitor is a web-based offertory solution that allows Parishioners to contribute from any location at any time!  Online Giving is available 24/7.

Parishioners who use the service are pleased with how easy it is to set up and manage. If you have not yet signed up for Online Giving with Our Sunday Visitor, then please consider this option. This is a perfect tool for anyone who shops or pay their bills online.

You may set up recurring online donations to SVDP’s regular Sunday Offertory and Second Collections, as well as make one-time donations and contribute to the San Francisco Archdiocesan Annual Appeal.

Why is this so important? Your online offerings provide regular consistent revenue to the Parish, which is essential to helping cover the expenses necessary to keep the Church doors open.

We have put some screenshots onto the website to be able to walk you through the process. https://svdpsf.org/how-to-give

If you have any questions please contact the Rectory churchoffice@svdpsf.com

Thanks to all parishioners who have participated in the Online Giving program in the past, and we would welcome any parishioners that would like to transition to this giving method moving forward.

Your financial assistance is a blessing to our SVDP Parish Community and vital to our ability to serve you.
Pre- Sacramental Preparation for

Becoming a member of a parish community is a very important aspect of our Catholic life. It is in the parish setting where we receive the Body and Blood of Christ, listen to the Word of God proclaimed, find forgiveness of our sins in Reconciliation, communal support, and ways to give life to our faith. The parish is a living, breathing entity because in it God interacts with His people.

During the pandemic, SVDP and the artists at Nzilani Glass Conservation were able to restore the Nativity themed stained glass windows (located on the west side of the sanctuary). This project took more than a year to complete, but we are pleased that the window was ready for the 2021 Advent and Christmas Season.

Click the video above to view the installation of the circular rose window at the top of the configuration.

Made possible by the generous donations of our faithful parishioners.

Your weekly tithing and annual gifts to our parish support similar projects needed to upkeep our historical parish buildings.

Thank you for your continued financial support.
