My name is Bob W, and I am an alcoholic in Augusta, Ga. The reason I’m writing is to share an experience I recently had, which connects us. I was at our local Goodwill store, where I often purchase used Big Books, and I found a third edition with your Intergroup stamp on the inside jacket cover. I initially thought “Houston? You’re a long way from home”, and laughed at the irony of finding a Big Book from Houston in Augusta, Ga. You see, I lived in Humble, Tx back in the early eighties, and was a member of the Atascocita Alateen group. About a year after mom got sober in Michigan, she visited her sponsor (who had moved to Kingwood) for a couple weeks, returned home and promptly moved us to Texas. During the course of my involvement with Alateen I was able to attend two East Texas Alateen Conventions. I have very fond memories of both.
I have no idea how the book purchased from your Intergroup Office made its way to Augusta, Ga. Only that it did provide me with an opportunity to venture down memory lane. Let me assure you the Big Book will find its way into the hands of an alcoholic who longs for the sober life our program offers.
I hope this letter brings joy to you all, knowing that the Program of Alcoholics Anonymous is thriving in Augusta Georgia.
May God keep you all in His Grace
In love and service,
