PERSEVERANCE AND PROGRESS
2022 is off to a great start. We were thrilled to help plan and sponsor the Economic Forum in March with the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce. Moderated by Jeanne Eschbach, Executive Director of Workforce Education & Academic Pathways at SUNY CCC, panelists included Kelly Houck, District Superintendent of GST BOCES, Tom Wirth, Executive VP/Wealth Management, Chemung Canal Trust Company, Steve Donner, President of Elmira Entertainment Sports, and Chuck Bills, President & CEO, Southern Tier Logistics (pictured here).

Southern Tier Logistics, a subsidiary of Ohio Logistics recently purchased what was formerly known as "HOST Terminal" in the Village of Horseheads. Its long term strategy is to convert the campus into a state-of-the-art logistics center with value added services. It is working on finalizing Foreign Trade Zone status for the center and has a seven-year investment plan totaling $125 million starting with the construction of a 461,000 sf, $25 million warehousing facility. The Chemung County IDA recently approved a benefits package that includes a PILOT, state and local sales and use, and mortgage recording tax abatement. The new building already has full tenancy commitment and will create 73 jobs.

Another project moving forward is an expansion for Stamped Fittings LLC, which plans to expand its operations on Sing Sing Road in Big Flats after outgrowing its current location in Elmira Heights. It has partnered with Vento USA, Inc. to construct a 120,000 sf building to expand and modernize its manufacturing operations resulting in retention of 37 jobs and the creation of 14 new positions. The project has been approved for a $1.01 million grant from Empire State Development and is also being considered for assistance from the Chemung County IDA.
