 | Summer Safety Tips Water Safety
Not including boating incidents, on average about 10 people die from drowning every day in the United States, according to Injury Facts® the annual statistical report on unintentional injuries produced by the National Safety Council. Drowning is the single leading cause of death of children ages 1-4. Living in a county surrounded by water, it's especially important to learn as much as possible about water safety and drowning prevention.

Fire Recovery for Downtown Tappahannock Tappahannock Main Street Association launches fundraising effort to help victims TAPPAHANNOCK, VA – Today, the 200 Block of Prince Street in our beloved historic district of downtown Tappahannock was engulfed in flames. Businesses and buildings are reduced to ash. Fire crews from all local jurisdictions and across the state responded to the blaze. However, the fire remains active at this time and the full effects will not be known for several days. In the wake of the disaster, Tappahannock Main Street Association has established a relief fund for victims of the fire. Please visit gofundme.com/Tappahannock to donate. Although time and insurance may ease some of today’s pain, many immediate needs and rebuilding efforts will require our assistance. “We ask the widespread network of people who love our river town to help lighten the load of this disaster on our community by giving any amount to help the victims,” said Tappahannock Main Street Association Director Beth Sharpe. “All proceeds will go directly to the affected employees and businesses.” Tappahannock Main Street Association is actively working at this time to feed and hydrate all first responders on site. We thank local donors for making this possible, including Roma Ristorante Italiano, Bella Pizza & Italian Restaurant, Lowe’s, Food Lion, and Walmart. The list of generous community members continues to grow, and we are deeply grateful for this support. Affected business and property owners are asked to reach out to Tappahannock Main Street Association in the coming days to make arrangements. |
