Formerly known as Pastor Matthew Mickens & The Highway Travelers began more than 40 years ago with a vision of Deacon James & Pastor Hattie Mickens.
Singing was something Deacon
Mickens loved to do, so he and Pastor Mickens formed a group.
The group consisted of their thirteen children, “The Mickens Children” and they named
themselves The Highway Travelers.
Over the years as the children grew older and there were some changes. Eventually, The
Highway Travelers just grew apart.
Pastor Matthew Mickens, the fourth of “The Mickens Children” always desired to sing quartet. In
1997 the vision of Deacon James & Pastor Hattie Mickens was brought back to existence by
Pastor Matthew Mickens.
He formed a group just as his parents did. This time he named thegroup Rev. Matthew Mickens & The Highway Travelers.
Deacon Mickens absolutely loved this. He had his children, The Highway Travelers and his grandchildren, The Junior Travelers.
He was proud to have his entire family doing what he loved,
singing good gospel music.
The group now consists of Pastor Matthew Mickens, lead vocalist; Justin Mickens, lead vocalist, lead guitarist and son of Rev. Mickens; Colton Mickens, vocalist, bass guitarist and son of Rev Mickens; Jamie Mickens, vocalist, Keyboardist and nephew of Rev. Mickens; Mitchell Lowry,
vocalist and godson of Rev. Mickens.
The Mickens' current project is entitled A Night In Hopkins Live. It is an amazing collection of
their greatest hits and some new songs on the SkyCity Music label.
Their Cousin – the number one Southern Soul and Blues Singer in the World – King George showcases his Gospel roots also by making a special guest appearance on the song – Don’t Let Me Fall which is destined to become a classic hit. The word is they are even preparing to shoot a concept video for the same
track.
The Mickens are also fan favorites who minister weekly across the country. Justin and Colton Mickens are even known for dancing throughout the crowd with their guitars while driving their fans and supporters into a frenzy.
We salute and honor the Mickens for helping to keep traditional Gospel Music alive!
Don’t die before you experience the music ministry of the Mickens of Hopkins, South Carolina.
