Project Overview
Fire Flow – Project 1 is a critical infrastructure upgrade designed to enhance the reliability and safety of the local water distribution system. The project includes upsizing existing water mains and installing new water connections to address areas that currently do not meet required fire flow standards.
Benefits
- Improved fire protection and public safety
- Increased system capacity and reliability
- Upgraded water mains and connections (some of the existing lines are in place since the 1940s and 1950s)
- Enhanced infrastructure to support future growth
What’s Happening
Starting on the week of Sept. 22 through Oct. 3, 2025, the contractor will mobilize equipment and materials to begin installing a new 12-inch water main along Michigan Court, between 6 Street and 7 Street.
Please note: To help maintain safety and accessibility for machinery and personnel within the work zone, the one-block alley will be fully closed. Residents are encouraged to secure alternate parking in Zone 2 for the duration of the work. Contact public information staff with vehicle details (make, model, tag) to make arrangements for Zone 2 parking. This is a moving operation, and sections will reopen as work progresses.
