What’s Happening 

Starting Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Meridian Avenue will be closed to all vehicles between 16 and 17 streets. Traffic will be redirected at 16 and 17 streets. Only local traffic will be permitted on Meridian Avenue between 16 Street and Lincoln Lane South. Valet access will remain open at Meridian Avenue and Lincoln Lane South. This closure is expected to last approximately six months.

Project Benefits 

Once complete, the Meridian Ave. corridor will serve as a welcoming, pedestrian and multi-mobility space. The Lincoln Road District Phase II Improvements along Meridian Avenue from 17 Street to Lincoln Lane South will improve safety, walkability, and the overall visitor experience to support local businesses, cultural institutions and events. The project scope includes:

• Enhancing the pedestrian experience approaching Lincoln Rd.
• Installing new trees including palms and new planters
• Widening sidewalks and installing pavers from 17 St. to Lincoln Rd.
• Installing new water, sanitary sewer and storm drain system infrastructure between 17 St. and Lincoln Road
• Building a new crosswalk at Lincoln Lane North (across Meridian Ave.)
• Constructing a raised landscape median between Lincoln Lane North and 17 Street
• Reinstalling and upgrading bike lanes
• Upgraded lighting and signalization
• Repaved roadway
• New signage, trees, landscaping and irrigation

Timeline 

The estimated construction duration for the Meridian section of the Lincoln Road Phase II project is approximately 10 months. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Weekends and holidays are subject to city approval and community notification. Please note this schedule may change due to weather and/or unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

The work on Meridian Avenue will be completed in stages to help minimize impacts on nearby businesses, local residents and area visitors to the Lincoln Road District. Construction will proceed as follows:

• During Stage One, the contractor will conduct all of the underground work; Meridian Avenue will be closed to vehicles from Lincoln Lane South to 17 Street. Sidewalks and pedestrian access will be maintained throughout this phase. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
  
• During Stages Two and Three, the contractor will conduct all the above groundwork; one lane of traffic will be open on one side of the road (northbound or southbound), while the other side is closed for construction. Additional updates will be provided as work advances and construction progresses.
  
• Access to city parking lots will also be maintained at all times throughout the construction project via entrances not located along Meridian Avenue. The city's trolley route will be adjusted to avoid traveling along Meridian Avenue. Pedestrian traffic along the Lincoln Road corridor will be maintained.
