City of Miami Beach Unveils New Vacant Storefront Cover Designs

The City of Miami Beach relaunched the Vacant Storefront Cover Program in a continued effort to improve the appearance of vacant, street-level commercial buildings and support the lease-up of retail spaces throughout the Miami Beach. Now the City is excited to announce five new designs have been added to the Program catalog.


First unveiled in 2019, this initiative supports property owners, brokers, realtors and property managers by wrapping vacant storefront windows free of charge with one of ten (10) artistic designs preapproved by the City.

eMerge America Thought Leadership Series Announced

The Economic Development Department (EDD) is focused on attracting business to and retaining businesses in Miami Beach. The goal is to develop and provide experiences, incentives and programs that engage founders, business owners, entrepreneurs, investors and startups and market Miami Beach by leveraging partnerships and resources to cultivate meaningful and sustainable relationships.


EDD is partnering with eMerge Americas, a venture-backed platform focused on transforming the Greater Miami area into the tech hubs of the Americas. The partnership will offer to host a fully immersive Thought Leadership Series focused on diversity, equity and inclusion in the technology community.


La Casa, held on November 30, 2022, was the first of the four-part series and created a one-day event for tech founders and investors to connect, converse and collaborate. The remainder of the series will be presented in February, March and June 2023 and will celebrate diversity, equity and inclusion in the tech community.

Tech Beach Retreat Recap

The City of Miami Beach was a proud sponsor of the Tech Beach Retreat conference held on October 27-28, 2022, in the historic Confidante Hotel in the heart of Miami Beach. Tech Beach Retreat is a leading global ecosystem builder, founded in the Caribbean, with a mission to attract and connect the best companies and minds with undiscovered talent and opportunities. The conference provided a strong launching pad for businesses seeking to enter the US market. Participants included Jon Oringe, Founder and Chairman of Shutterstock and Melissa Pegus from Tech Stars. We look forward to Tech Beach Retreat coming back next year to Miami Beach!

Miami Beach Attends Money 20/20

The City of Miami Beach participated in Money20/20, a premier show where C-level executives, renowned speakers, innovators and disruptors from across the world drive change in the future of money.


The exploratory participation offered an opportunity to promote Miami Beach as a destination of choice to 8,000 leaders and influencers from over 2,800 different companies in the financial services and technology industries and resulted in new conversations, connections, discoveries and insights on how we can achieve our goal to attract, diversify, and grow our business community.

Art Week Miami Beach Recap

Art Week Miami Beach 2022 featured new installments of the popular Art Basel Miami Beach with 4,000 artists from the world’s leading galleries on display at the newly renovated Miami Beach Convention Center as well as the city-curated No Vacancy, which matched 10 artists with 10 iconic Miami Beach hotels. Art Week Miami Beach also featured diverse programming from monumental temporary public art installations by FriendsWithYou, Carlos Betancourt and the increasingly popular Miami Beach Legacy Purchase Program.

 

Art Outside Miami Beach, a public art exhibition curated by The Bass in collaboration with Art in Public Places, continues to bring residents and visitors the opportunity to see and experience a network of public art throughout Miami Beach, including works by Elmgreen and Dragset, Joep Van Lieshout, Abraham Cruzvillegas, Zanele Muholi, Ugo Rondinone, Franz Ackermann, Jim Drain, Dan Graham, Sylvie Fleury, Lawrence Weiner, Bill Fontana and Susan Philipsz, among others.

Clean Miami Beach and Normandy Fountain Business Association are hosting Miami Beach’s first ever EcoFest at the Normandy Fountain.


EcoFest is a first of its kind sustainably focused festival held in Miami Beach benefitting several local environmental non-profits. It will feature local sustainable vendors, organizations, music, food & drinks, eco-action activities for kids, silent auction, giveaways and much more. Everything will be plastic free, of course!

BUSINESS ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS

Miami Beach Emergency Small Business Expense Reimbursement Grant Funding Still Available

Small businesses in Miami Beach are encouraged to apply for a $20,000 emergency grant to cover rent, mortgage, utilities, payroll and operating expenses incurred during the COVID-19 pandemic. The grants are awarded on a first-come, first-qualified basis. Interested businesses may apply here.

Miami Beach Expedited Plan Review and Permitting Incentive Program

The City of Miami Beach is committed to diversifying the local economy by attracting and retaining companies in targeted industries like, financial services and technology. As part of this effort, the City is also offering an Expedited Plan Review and Permitting Program to incentivize targeted relocations, including expansions and associated development for companies. Miami Beach Job Creation Incentive Program

The City of Miami Beach is offering the Job Creation Incentive Program (JCIP), a performance-based incentive adopted by the City Commission. TESTING & VACCINATIONS

COVID-19 Testing and Vaccination Site Near City Hall

Nomi Health continues to operate the testing and vaccination site located on the first floor of the Pennsylvania Garage (G9) at 17 Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. The site operates seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with no appointment necessary. Vaccines are administered until 5 p.m., while testing continues until 6 p.m. The site is also administering the COVID-19 vaccine for ages 6 months+ and offering single booster doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines to those eligible to receive them. Nomi Health has opened an additional walk-up testing site at 8400 Collins Ave for ages 5 and up. This location also operates seven days a week from 8 a.m.to 6 p.m. with no appointment necessary. It offers both rapid and PCR tests.
