Project Updates: Fire Flow Packages

Notice Date: Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025

What’s Happening

Starting on Monday, December 8 (after art week) through Friday, Dec. 19, 2025, the contractors working on water main installation for the Fire Flow Packages (FFP) will continue work in the following areas:

  • 8 Street between Michigan Ct. and Lenox Ave.
  • 12 Street between Euclid and Meridian Avenues

Project Overviews

The Fire Flow Packages are critical infrastructure upgrade projects, designed to enhance the reliability and safety of the local water distribution system. The projects include upsizing existing water mains and installing new water connections to address areas that currently do not meet required fire flow standards.

Benefits

  • Improved fire protection and public safety
  • Increased system capacity and reliability
  • Upgraded water mains and connections (some of the existing lines are in place since the 1940s and 1950s)
  • Enhanced infrastructure to support future growth

Please be advised:

For FFP 1, parking on the south side of 8 Street, between Michigan Ct. and Lenox Ave., will be temporarily unavailable due to ongoing infrastructure work. Parking will be prohibited Monday through Sunday. Please see map herein (above) for details on the impacted parking area.

For FFP 2, parking on both sides of 12 Street, between Euclid Ave. and Meridian Ave., will be temporarily unavailable due to ongoing infrastructure work. Parking will be prohibited Monday through Sunday. Please see map herein (below) for details on the impacted parking area.

In addition to the parking restrictions, full road closures will also be implemented at times in these areas. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes around the work zones and follow all posted detour signs.

These restrictions are necessary to facilitate essential improvements and ensure public safety. All individuals are encouraged to seek alternate parking and adhere to posted signage to avoid enforcement measures.

Construction Timeline

Construction work is ongoing, Mondays through Fridays, from December 8 through 19. Work hours range from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. Any extended work hours or weekend work requested is subject to city approval and community notification.

Please note, there will be a pause in construction work over the holidays. All FFP construction work will cease after Friday, December 19, 2025, and will resume in the new year on January 5, 2026.

  • All efforts are being made to minimize impacts to area residents and businesses.
  • Restoration activities will take place upon the project’s completion and will address areas impacted by the construction.
