National Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15 - October 15, is a time when we celebrated the contributions of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture and success of our community. Join us as we proudly highlight local Mexican-American-owned business, Dulce Vida, a Miami Beach Business Academy participant, and successful recipient of the City of Miami Beach Emergency Small Business Reimbursement Grant, with the support of the City of Miami Beach Economic Development Department.

2022 Miami Beach Hispanic Heritage Award Winners

The Miami Beach Hispanic Affairs Committee announced the 2022 Hispanic Heritage Award recipients. The award ceremony will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at 6 p.m. at the Normandy Shores Golf Course (2401 Biarritz Dr.).

 

“Miami Beach is home to a large and robust population from many countries,” explained Hispanic Affairs Committee Chairperson Gabriel J. Paez. “We are once again pleased to acknowledge the vast contributions of Hispanic individuals and their cultures to our community.”

Comcast RISE Program Announces Additional $1 Million in Grants for South Florida Businesses

Comcast announced that it will award an additional $1 million in grants to 100 small businesses owned by women and people of color, including Black, Indigenous, Hispanic, and Asian American owners, among others, in Broward and Miami-Dade Counties, bringing the Comcast RISE program’s total investment in South Florida to $2 million.


Interested businesses can apply here. Applications will be accepted from October 3 through October 16, 2022.

Miami Bayside Foundation Accepting Applications for Upcoming Small Business Training Period

For entrepreneurs ready to take their business to the next level, the Miami Bayside Foundation (MBF) is now accepting applications for their upcoming 5-week, 14-session Small Business Training (SBT) program to help business owners sharpen their skills while learning how to prepare to access capital. 


To be accepted, small businesses must be active and in operation for a minimum of six months, at least 51% minority-owned, and located in Miami-Dade, Broward, or Monroe Counties. As defined by Florida statute, minorities include African Americans, Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans, and women.

Elevate D5: How to Find Customers Online Workshop

September 7 - October 17, 2022

“How to Find Customers Online” is an introductory course in digital marketing for small businesses, to assist them on how they can find, attract and retain customers online. Participating business owners will work with expert instructors and peer business owners to learn the BizHack Lead Building System™ methodology, create a Business Directory Listing, and develop a personalized Growth Roadmap that provides a clear plan of action with next steps for finding customers online.

2023 eMerge Global Startup Showcase

The eMerge Americas 2023 Startup Showcase is once again merging with Panoramic Ventures’ Startup Showdown and with the most active venture capital firm in Florida, Florida Funders, for a mega-pitch competition. Catapult your startup to the next level and pitch your brand in front of investors, decision makers and industry leaders at eMerge Americas on April 20-21, 2023.

 

Over 100 companies will be selected to compete within three tracks (University Stage, Early Stage, and Later Stage) for a chance to share their story on the eMerge Main Stage. The winning startup will receive over $400,000 in investment, as well as in-kind prizes that will be announced soon.

October 15 - 23, 2022

The National LGBTQ Task Force Gala is the premier annual celebration of South Florida’s LGBTQ+ community. The Gala is a night for LGBTQ+ people and their supporters to unite our community, honor our heroes, and advance equality. The event is produced by the National LGBTQ Task Force. In addition to funding the work of the Task Force, the Gala also benefits numerous organizations serving the South Florida LGBTQ+ community.

Miami Beach Emergency Small Business Expense Reimbursement Grant Funding Still Available

Small businesses in Miami Beach are encouraged to apply for a $20,000 emergency grant to cover rent, mortgage, utilities, payroll and operating expenses incurred during the COVID-19 pandemic. The grants are awarded on a first-come, first-qualified basis. Interested businesses may apply here.

Miami Beach Expedited Plan Review and Permitting Incentive Program

The City of Miami Beach is committed to diversifying the local economy by attracting and retaining companies in targeted industries like, financial services and technology. As part of this effort, the city is also offering an Expedited Plan Review and Permitting Program to incentivize targeted relocations, including expansions and associated development for companies. Miami Beach Vacant Storefront Cover Program

The City of Miami Beach relaunched the Vacant Storefront Cover Program in a continued effort to improve the appearance of vacant, street-level commercial buildings and support the lease-up of retail spaces throughout the city.


First unveiled in 2019, this initiative supports property owners, brokers, realtors and property managers by wrapping vacant storefront windows free of charge with one of five artistic designs preapproved by the city.

TESTING & VACCINATIONS

COVID-19 Testing and Vaccination Site Near City Hall

Nomi Health continues to operate the testing and vaccination site located on the first floor of the Pennsylvania Garage (G9) at 17 Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. The site operates seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with no appointment necessary. Vaccines are administered until 5 p.m., while testing continues until 6 p.m. The site is also administering the COVID-19 vaccine for ages 6 months+ and offering single booster doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines to those eligible to receive them. Nomi Health has opened an additional walk-up testing site at 8400 Collins Ave for ages 5 and up. This location also operates seven days a week from 8 a.m.to 6 p.m. with no appointment necessary. It offers both rapid and PCR tests.

Hurricane Preparedness for Small Businesses

A Business Emergency Response Team (BERT) training program can support and enhance your capabilities in an emergency situation. BERT volunteers can participate in efforts to increase the preparedness and resilience of the workplace and community. A BERT program equips employees with skills that enable them to perform basic disaster response operations in an emergency. Having trained volunteers on staff helps protect the health, safety, and lives of people at your workplace. Volunteers are trained using the FEMA Community Emergency Response Team basic Training curriculum. Ready.gov provides excellent resources for developing preparedness plans. You can find these resources listed under “Ready Business."
