There's a saying I return to often: God doesn't just download us with spare parts. Every organ, every tooth, every seemingly "unnecessary" structure in the body has a role to play — and in this issue, we're turning our attention to two areas of the body that are too often treated as disposable: the gallbladder and spleen, and wisdom teeth and the intricate, underappreciated world of your teeth in general, and their connection to your whole-body health.
In our first feature, we explore why removing an organ or extracting a tooth without first understanding its deeper function can leave the true root cause of an issue untouched — and why that root cause tends to resurface elsewhere down the line. We look at the spleen's role as a bridge between the physical and the conscious self, the wisdom teeth's ties to meridians governing the heart and intestines, and why a little patience (and a well-chosen second opinion) can go a long way before agreeing to any extraction.
Our second feature takes a deep dive into the dental world through a wholistic lens, with insight from our trusted colleague, biological dentist, Dr. Farid Shodjaee. We look at how cavities and pitting can be signs of deeper mineral-absorption issues rather than problems to simply fill over, how fluoride's reputation deserves a second look, and how the tiny tubules and canals within a single tooth connect — quite literally — to organs and systems throughout the body.
We also unpack why root canals remain such a contested procedure in wholistic circles, examining the research linking oral infection sites to broader chronic health patterns, and why proper support — from mercury chelation to drainage protocols — matters so much when this kind of work is undertaken.
Beyond the physical, we revisit Michael J. Lincoln's psychological framework around dental health, exploring how patterns of indecision, overwhelm, and long-held responsibility can manifest — quite literally — in the teeth. It's a reminder that healing, in our practice, always looks at the whole picture: mind, body, and the layers of history we carry in both.
As always, our goal is to equip you with a fuller picture so you can make informed, conscious choices about your care and your family's care. We hope this issue leaves you with a few new questions to sit with — and a renewed sense of agency over your own health. As always, we love hearing from you, so don't hesitate to reach out with your thoughts.
Love,
Ally and Jeff
