Seeing Clearly:
Light That Changes Everything

In John 9:1–41, Jesus heals a man born blind, and the miracle becomes more than restored eyesight. As the story unfolds, the man begins to see not only with his eyes, but with faith. Meanwhile, those who are certain they see clearly (the religious leaders) grow increasingly blind to what God is doing right in front of them. Jesus’ final words are piercing: true blindness is not physical, but spiritual - the refusal to see the light standing before us.

This Gospel reading meets us during a week filled with reminders of knowledge, certainty, and perception. March 14 is Pi Day, celebrating human reason, logic, and the beauty of mathematics. March 15, known as the Ides of March, has long symbolized misplaced confidence and unexpected reversal. It is also World Consumer Rights Day, highlighting discernment and truth in a world full of competing claims. These moments echo the tension in John 9. The world values certainty and control. Jesus offers something deeper: humility before the truth and trust in Him who is the Light of the world. Lent gently exposes the ways we cling to our own understanding and invites us instead to receive sight as a gift.

This week, we pray with the healed man’s simple confession: “Lord, I believe.” And trusting Christ, we walk in His light: seeing ourselves, our neighbors, and our world more clearly through His mercy.

Support for Church Workers: Counseling & Coaching

Ministry is demanding work. The CNH District's Counseling & Coaching initiative connects professional church workers with licensed therapists and executive coaches so you can heal, grow, and lead well.

Therapists offer a confidential space to work through what's weighing on you - for your sake, your family's, and your ministry's. Coaches help you move from where you are to where you want to be, personally, professionally, and purposefully.
