Let's Tell a Better Story

“Canada warns LGBT travellers of US risks”
That was the title of an article in my BBC news feed this week that first shocked me, and then gave me pause.
According to gallop poll, gay marriage approval is up to 71% of the US population, with only 28% claiming it’s not a valid marriage. But those figures were reversed just 18 years ago, and the 28% holding out remain loud.
In an instant I recalled the themes of emails and phone calls I’d received over the last few months related to LGBTQ+ hate . . .

Sunday begins with Early Eucharist in the chapel. This intimate service features basic music and follows the Book of Common Prayer in its order of worship.
9 a.m. Sundae Schmooze Join us for the annual tradition of saying goodbye to summer services with ice cream! Lactose-free and sugar-free ice cream will be available. There will also be cookies, fruit, coffee & lemonade for those folks who might not be ready for ice cream at 9 a.m. Look for the high top tables in the piazza.

The music for this Sunday will be provided by our organ scholars, JoEllen West and Carolyn Hoff, with Edward Vogel, baritone, singing Stanford Scriven's Christ the Apple Tree and Joseph Kemper's arrangement of the spiritual, My Lord, What a Morning. Children can worship and/or play in the interactive soft space located in the east transept. The service will be livestreamed on trinitycleveland.org/choral-eucharist-livestream.

School Supply Drive a Big Success

Thank you to everyone in the congregation who donated school supplies or money for our partner school, Marion-Sterling, on East 30th Street in Central Neighborhood. To give you an idea of the supplies donated, we have listed them below. “1 bag” represents a large plastic shopping bagful, and “1 box” represents a copy-paper sized boxful. The drive was a huge success, and their social worker, Ashley Williams, was most appreciative on behalf of the school. You helped give the youth there a good start for this 2023-2024 school year.

Sunday School Starts on September 10th
Sunday School will be starting on Sept 10th, following the 9:00 am. service, with a welcome celebration in each classroom. Parents and young people are invited to their classrooms for treats and to meet some of their teachers.
PreK-2nd Grade classroom is located down the steps off of the Piazza going towards the street front restaurants. It is the first door to the left.
3rd – 6th Grade classroom is the front area of the 3rd floor Youth & Family Center.
7th – 12th Grade classroom is in the Youth Group room, which is in the back of the 3rd floor Youth & Family Center.
There will be signs and balloons visible to help you find your rooms. We hope you can join us for a new season of learning and growing in faith.

Youth Confirmation Class
Begins Sept. 17 for
Youth in 8th - 10th Grade
Confirmation is the sacramental rite in which candidates "express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop." (Book of Common Prayer, p. 860).
Classes will take place one a month, beginning on Sunday, September 17 from 1–2:30 p.m. in the Youth & Family Center on Trinity's third floor. Classes will continue on the third Sunday of each month through March. If you have questions, please contact Eric Travis, etravis@trinitycleveland.org.

Trinity Cookout:
Best of the Wurst
Join us for “Best of the Wurst” at the Trinity Cookout on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 12 noon. We’ll be grilling bratwurst, sausages, veggie/vegan dogs and hot dogs, plus all the fixings, i.e. grilled onions, sauerkraut, brown mustard, etc.
We invite attendees to bring their best potluck side dishes and desserts to round out our meal. Last names A-M, please bring desserts, N-Z please bring side dishes.
There is no cost, but please register.

Adult Inquirer's Class
Begins October 4
Would you like to learn more about The Episcopal Church? Would you like to be baptized, confirmed or transfer from another Episcopal church?
This class will take place Wednesday evenings after Evensong at 7 p.m. on October 4 and 18, November 1, 15 and 29, and December 13.

A Wonderful Watercolor Weekend
with Trinity Member Sarah Knoblauch
Friday, Oct. 6, 5 p.m. – Sunday, Oct. 8, 12 p.m.
Artist and master teacher Sarah Knoblauch will lead this retreat for all levels of experience. Come for the whole weekend, a part, or just the day. As a Montessori teacher, Sarah is uniquely qualified to “follow your lead” as you explore or refine your watercolor techniques. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or more advanced watercolorist, there’s a place for you! With both group and ongoing individual instruction throughout the retreat, there will be plenty of opportunity to play with the magical qualities of watercolor, which Sarah calls “spontaneous, controlled, and, best of all, forgiving!” Pricing varies based on number of days attending; see website for details. Mark your calendars for a night of diversity, culture, and community in support of immigrant families at the Cultural Connections 3.0 fundraiser and multicultural celebration.
Americans Making Immigrants Safe (AMIS) is a non-profit that began through the generosity of Trinity members Gary Benjamin and Melody Joy Hart in 2018, expanding to provide nearly $300,000 in assistance for basic needs such as health care, legal assistance and housing support to families from over 26 countries who are building a new life in Northeast Ohio.
This will be the first in-person Cultural Connections event since 2019, after previously transitioning to a virtual format during the pandemic. AMIS is thrilled to bring supporters together for a night of food, music, and community spirit in Cleveland's vibrant Asia Town neighborhood.
