The trip south I mentioned last week included lots of adventures. I so enjoyed our walk in the bird sanctuary. The early evening walk was a bit cooler than our other adventures, and at the perfect time to see, and hear, an unbelievable number of birds. I wasn’t quite as thrilled with spotting an alligator on that walk, just hanging out with its mouth open, maybe expecting a bird snack… Next up was snorkeling. You might not be surprised, I watched from shore as youngest prepared. After some instruction from a sibling, she bid me farewell - as in, “If I don’t make it back it’s been a good run”... There were literally hundreds of people diving and snorkeling, as the spot is known for its abundant sea creatures. I’m pretty sure she didn’t expect the creatures to be quite so interested in her… Not sure how she managed to yell (with a snorkel mouthpiece firmly in place!) and wave her arms around to fend them off, but it sure would have been fun to witness up close!

It just goes to show, things you never dreamed you would do can wind up being quite fun. Maybe we’ll be able to get her to learn the machine stitching step of binding next…

Wishing you a week of new adventures,

Mary Beth

This Saturday (6-27-26) those in our end of the month pieced Saturday Sampler group will meet at 9:00am. We will share shop news, and show and tell, and then focus on to the next block in the series. This month we will discuss block structure and design, before moving on to half square triangle construction information. Don’t forget to bring your block from last month - we love seeing them!

Also on Saturday, the next Stash Management Club session will be held at 10:30am.  Bring show and tell, and any sewing space organizing tips you have come across in the past month. We have a pattern selected to present - one that can be made with your ever more valuable scrap collection!

All Mid-Atlantic Shop Hop 2026!

I can’t believe it’s almost time for the All Mid-Atlantic Shop Hop to begin! The July and August hop includes shops in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. There will be so much to see (to say nothing about the prizes to be won!), and so many people to meet as you journey from shop to shop. Be sure to stop in soon to purchase the event magazine - it contains all the info you need for the hop (including the passport, individual shop info, articles, and patterns that feature the 2026 commemorative fabric group - state parks are the focus this time!!!). Magazine $13.99

Christmas in July at QC!

July 13th to 18th

Holiday fabric collections continue to stream into the shop. A Ruby Star collection is the newest! As you might expect, we have projects in mind for almost every single piece! We are currently stitching up a storm so we can host a wintery showcase in the middle of summer! When you stop in mid July you will find holiday quilts, pillows, table runners and gift items - each something you might want to make as a gift or decoration. Of course, there will be a chance to win a holiday themed package, and even a little gift just for stopping to take it all in - a fun distraction from the heat of the summer!

Pull out your QC date book. Take a look at the coupons for July (there are good ones!), add events from the newsletter, and then most important of all, change some info!!! I goofed when making the plan last fall! Please cross off the Sidewalk Celebration at the end of July and move it to August 1st and 2nd!!! I don’t know what I was thinking - did I just not realize a holiday, Independence Day, would have us closed on a Saturday in July?!!! After you write the correct date in your date book please let your friends know the correct date - thank you!

Those working on the Midnight Sparkle Sampler are invited to two upcoming technique sessions. On Saturday, July 18th, at 2:00pm we will cover the applique techniques used for the quilt. On Saturday, September 19th, at 12:00pm we will review information needed to successfully piece the quilts Lone Star centerpiece. These two motifs work with the pieced blocks you have been creating - with amazing results!

Don’t forget - the Comfort Cases maker reception is this Saturday at 1:00pm. Stories to share, little treats to share - we would love to welcome you! Please let us know if you plan to attend.

Elizabeth Hartman has begun designing for Moda, and the collaboration is fantastic! Her first collection with them, Scenery, includes 32 prints that she describes as “nature-inspired tone-on-tones in an array of sun warmed colors”. The bolts form a most tempting rainbow in front of the red section in the shop. We liked the group so much, we ordered all the prints and even Jelly Rolls, Charm Squares and Layer Cakes!!! Heather has already turned a Jelly Roll into a version of Villa Rosa’s Markesan. Pattern and prints are the perfect pair! (Also shown in the first photo above)
